Electronics have become an integral part of nearly every aspect of life. They've changed how we work, learn, play, and connect. And, since we own more electronics and are constantly upgrading, we're creating even more e-waste at breakneck speed. But the world simply hasn't found a way to responsibly deal with the volume of waste that is being created.
Sustainability requires a concerted effort from everyone, everywhere. It takes shifting thinking and better decision making - not just around what we do with our electronics, but also how we do it. Understanding where we are today, how we got here, and where we have to go next are all critical parts of the journey to achieving electronics sustainability.

And so, all the different members of the electronics industry should be challenged to ask, What's our role in contributing to a circular economy? How do we do our part? For SERI, we're thinking beyond circularity with electronics, because being circular doesn't necessarily mean we are being sustainable.
SERI considers itself a catalyst in the drive to sustainability, and for us, that means bringing together various members of the electronics industry and community to create action. We believe that the journey to sustainability requires improving knowledge, recognizing good practices, and building capacity for responsible reuse and recycling, everywhere around the world.
SERI is working to protect the planet and enrich lives by championing sustainable actions as a leader in both word and action. Here are our guiding principles. Used and end-of-life electronics present a global challenge and require a global set of strategies. Rigorous environmental and worker health and safety practices are central to the responsible management of used and end-of-life electronics.
We believe that the majority of people, businesses, and organizations around the world want to be responsible with their electronics, but may not always know how. So, every chance we get we take the opportunity to provide better information, a different way of thinking, and challenge conventions. The more everyone knows, the greater the opportunity for positive outcomes.
There are plenty of stories about the negative impacts of e-waste and what happens when we make poor decisions with our electronics. But there are lots of individuals, businesses, and organizations that are making great strides toward sustainability and we want to tell those stories as well because we think they can provoke and inspire even more progress.
