Rachel Robb Avery, Phd provides confidential individual and family therapy, Psychological Assessment and School and Daycare Consultation Services. When a child or adolescent is seen in psychotherapy, parent participation is required as intervention is focused on promoting the mutual satisfaction of parent-child communication, problem solving and emotional sharing.
This involvement could involve either/or parent-child counseling sessions or parent education and support sessions. For parents of younger children, parents and children will usually be seen together in the playroom. Each parent-child session will be focused on the processes and successful resolution of current areas of conflict, confusion, disappointment or disconnect that disrupt feelings of healthy attachment and communication.

Answer: It is always a good idea to inquire about your insurance benefits before calling for a therapy appointment as different policies have different referral procedures. 3 If I am a divorced parent and I want to bring my child to see you, do I need to have the child's other parent give permission for me to do so?
