Travellers, deli is old school in a very good way. They make a fantastic sandwich. It is a older deli right in downtown Haverhill with booths to eat in and an expansive menu to choose from. The potato salad that came with the turkey Ruben was homemade and delicious. So was the Ruben. It was a wonderful sandwich made with real turkey, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, and Russian dressing on toasted marbled rye. It was a terrific lunch. The ham and cheese was great too. I ordered some food from Uber eats. Just wanted to say kudos to Tony (I think he said on the phone). He was nice enough to call and make sure he had it made as wanted. I really appreciated him taking Tht step to be sure. I told him I didn't want a side. He said well it comes with one. Pick something, may as well. Mashed potatoes? I know this sounds dumb, but the small mashed with gravy was seriously outstanding. Extremely good. Not expected. Ha. This place should get 6 stars. Love their turkey and roast beef. Everything done there is done how it should be. You are

I don't generally like giving 5 stars, as there should always be room for improvement, right? The A-1 is what it is. Passing by, you might think it's just another greasy spoon, right on the sidewalk of a downtown street. But...you can find it busy from breakfast through lunch, it's all that good. Even so, the counter servers and cooks move the line as fast as you can imagine. The dinners are right in front of you...corned beef and cabbage, roast chicken, beef, ham. Really most anything you can think of, all with more than a serving of real mashed potatoes with gravy and vegetable

The breakfast gets enough raves as it is but I'll still add my voice to the crowd. My favorite is the Greek Omelet, by the way

THe chicken, the pork chops with mashed potatoes. Oh My!
And, if you are lucky, they will do the lamb. These guys have been doing it right for years. And they always remember a frequent face. My favorite place to go-always!

The A1 Deli has been around for 40 years and its renowned cuisine has earned its name amongst the BEST RESTAURANTS in the business! It's family owned and looked after. Reasonably priced for the working man and features homemade meals and pastries.
After traveling many restaurants in the USA and abroad, I can say it's among the very best in quality, service and atmosphere!
No wonder Senator Ted Kennedy loved the place.

I so badly want to love this place, but alas I can't fake it. It has everything I love. Cafeteria style dinner. Simple lay out. And friendly staff any time I've been in. But unfortunately the food has always been a smige less than "o.k.". That said, the side room does have the smallest 3 stool bar that gets it an extra . For that alone I can't knock the A1 Deli.

We were in town for a few days and stopped by for s sandwich based on reviews. We were impressed the first time with the quality and quantity of their sandwiches. Roast beef was tender and the roll was nice and soft. The ham and cheese sub was large and very good. A couple of days later we went for dinner and had roast beef dinner. Again the roast beef was very tender, large servings of beef, potatoes, corn and Italian bread. Unbelievable servings for the money, very friendly staff! Wish we could take them back to Florida.

The food is delicious here. I have such a hard time ordering because I don't want to choose just one thing! I usually get either the corned beef or the roast beef dinner. Both plates are always overflowing. The mashed potatoes are creamy and there are at least 2 veggie choices at any given time. Deff not a place you want to miss. Family owned and the food is fresh.

I've only been there twice for lunch, but I know. One day the Reuben sandwich, toasted and stuffed with corned beef and said kraut, and the next day roasted chicken with a mt rainier of mashed potatoes and a pyramid of corn. So far I haven't been able to finish my food. Someday I hope to.
