John Roberts is a native born New Mexican and has worked for over 40 Years in the accounting and tax field. Beginning his career in 1978 with New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, NM he began a 20 year commitment to Non-Profit Fund Accounting.

In 1998 he opened his first accounting firm with the Texas based accounting franchise of General Business Services, Inc. and began offering Bookkeeping, Accounting and Tax services to individuals and small business.Over the years the business grew and provided services to over 1,500 clients.
We have many years' experience in the Construction Trade and can assist startup companies as well as established Tradesmen. Cost accounting for multiple projects and multi-year projects require specialized handling to properly account for the profitability of each build as well as an overall tax reduction.
One question we are asked is "What entity type is best?" and the concrete answer is "it depends". The goals of the company and owners must be analyzed and studied before a determination is made. Is the goal primarily to reduce Self Employment taxes with an S Corporation? Is it to keep as much profit as possible in the company to attain certain goals (Buying a Building, Buying new equipment, and expansion, or Investing).
There are several types of business Entities and it seems a different tax form is used for each type. Corporations, S-Corporations, Limited Liability Companies, Partnerships, and Disregarded Entities MUST each properly file. One mistake can have a ripple effect on the whole business tax return (and any member getting a K-1) with penalties and interest imposed.
