Greetings from your hosts, Rob and Debi Hertert. We are a husband and wife team who want to share our love for Portland and the Oregon coast. Our goal is to help you have the special kind of Oregon Coast experience you're looking for while staying at one of our vacation rentals. We have been married for over 45 years and have lived in Oregon since 1976.

We have raised our three children here and are the proud grandparents of 4 youngsters. We bought The Gullhouse in the tiny coastal village of Seal Rock in 2000 as our family vacation home. In 2008 we began renting it out to the general public. We liked the experience of being vacation rental hosts so much that by 2009 we added two additional rentals, The Romance of the Sea and Shearwaterhouse, in Lincoln City, Oregon.

These "Seal Rocks" form a ledge of partially submerged rocks in the Pacific Ocean surfline. They extend parallel to the coast for about two and a half miles at a distance of a half mile from the beach. The highest rock rises about 20 feet out of the water. There is one large rock at the shoreline and many smaller ones.
Seal Rock, Oregon is named for the rock formations that guard this particular section of the Oregon Coast. Its original Chinook name, "Seal Illahe, " means "seal home" and offers an apt description of the area's most endearing landmark. Dozens of seals and sea lions inhabit the rocks at Seal Rock State Recreation Site, providing excellent wildlife photography opportunities.
Relax in a peaceful setting among a stand of old growth Douglas Fir trees, within the city limits of Portland, Oregon. Visually protected from the busy street, you enter into your own private garden space, an oasis of charm on 1/3 acre of private garden with mature landscaping. The garden area offers a hammock for napping.
The Gullhouse is a rare, secluded, intimate hide-a-way on the popular Central Oregon Coast, located across the street from the beach. Enjoy the stunning views of dawn over the ocean, crashing storms, whale spouts, and dramatic sun sets as you drink wine on the deck, sit in the hot tub or even from the comfort of the great room!
