Established in 1944, the Madaket boat yard began as a family owned boat repair shop. Boats were brought into the shops by using the high tides, and were placed up onto railroad ties while repairs were made. In 1966, Hither Creek Boat Yard was formed by a small group of Madaket residents, and in the 1980's, Madaket Marine was formed as a division of Hither Creek Boat Yard, Inc.

Last summer, I was dropping friends off at Madaket Marine. I walked them up to their taxi at the end of the parking lot (they didnt know where the entrance was) at 6pm on Sunday evening. When I returned to my boat, there was no power to the engines, but full power to the rest of the boat. Seemed really fishy, boat was just working great and I had turned off the batteries to ensure they wouldn't die. Fast forward a year when a nice worker left and got a new job.
