In 2002, Sensei Conell Loveless enrolled at the Southfield Martial Arts Institute under Grand Master Willie Adams. Today, he is the Head Instructor at Revolution Martial Arts. As a 3rd degree black belt in Isshinryu, Sensei Loveless has been a notable figure on the Michigan and National Sport Karate scene.
Isshinryu (One Heart/Mind) was developed By Hanshi Shimabuku, Okinawa's Grand Master of Shorin-ryu, who devoted his life to the study of karate. He was a master of Goju-ryu; studied Kobayshi-Ryu under famous Master Chotokan Kiyan and under legendary Master Motobu. He then studied the art of Bo and Sai weapons defense and Tee-faa under Okinawa's most noted instructors.
Instead of teaching a traditional martial arts system to these young children, our Little Dragon program teaches martial arts motor skills. The traditional martial arts systems are too difficult for younger children to learn and enjoy. The moves they are taught in class are very natural and easy to learn system of developing skills with basic hands, elbows, knees, and kicking techniques that are fun and exciting for children.
The following is a basic outline of the curriculum, belt ranking system, and stripe system for the Lil' Dragon Program. A child is ready to graduate about every eight weeks. The child should have at least 4 stripes on his/her belt. It is possible for a Lil' Dragon to get additional stripes during an eight week period of time if they come two times a week for the eight weeks.
Translated, karate means "empty hand". The oriental art of unarmed self-defense has been around since ancient times. It is the ultimate power of the unity of mind and body. People spend their lives training their spirits as well as their bodies. In addition to being an excellent self-defense system, sport and work-out, karate provides a heightened appreciation for one's self and the world.
