The basic Military Funeral Honors (MFH) ceremony consists of the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veterans' family and the playing of Taps. The ceremony is performed by a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two members of the Armed Forces. The Funeral Honors rendered to you or your veteran will be determined by the status of the veteran.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a Government headstone or marker for the unmarked grave of any deceased eligible veteran in any cemetery around the world, regardless of their date of death. When the grave is already marked, applicants will have the option to apply for either a traditional headstone or marker, or a new device (available spring 2009).

The staff at Lanham-Schanhofer is wonderful. They are attentive to your suggestions and sensitive to your thoughts and feelings. I was so very impressed with the care they took with ensuring that my husband looked so natural. Many people commented on how wonderfully peaceful he looked. Even after the services were done and everyone had gone on their way, Jeff and Andrea both reached out to me to ensure I was ok and if I needed anything. They also provided a beautiful memorial ornament. I would strongly recommend them to anyone in need of services. I cannot thank them enough for all they have done

The entire staff was very friendly, service oriented, attentive to detail and made the entire process of my mother’s death and funeral go very smoothly as they graciously guided us through every step. From my very first email/phone call to them, they responded quickly and knew exactly how to help. I highly recommend them. Jordan was our main person, however, the entire staff was available whenever we had a need.
