Established more than 50 years ago, we are one of the oldest, largest, and most well respected law firms in Utah County. At the Provo-based law firm of Esplin | Weight, we are always looking for ways to maximize the value of the legal services we provide to individual and business clients throughout Utah.
One of Utah's most skilled and experienced attorneys, Michael Esplin was educated at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. Laura Cabanilla is a partner with the firm and shares in the ownership of the historic building where the firm is located. Trent V. Cahill is a shareholder / partner of the firm and has been licensed in both Michigan and Utah.
Trent V. Cahill offers 13 years of legal experience to his clients and is licensed in both Michigan and Utah. As a graduate of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, he has an extensive knowledge of and background in a variety of legal areas-specifically that of business law, family law, and estate planning.
When representing clients, my objective is to give the best possible representation through my knowledge and skill, which will ensure my client's needs are met and Constitutional Rights are upheld. In 2007, I was pleased to join Esplin | Weight, a premier Utah Criminal Defense firm. My practice consists primarily of Criminal Defense work but I also handle Personal Injury cases.
At Esplin | Weight, we help people in need. Our personal injury attorneys help victims of car accidents, truck and motorcycle accidents, and other negligent and careless acts obtain compensation and justice for their losses and suffering. Divorce is scary. Especially when the opposing team is extremely aggressive; it's 2020; the economy is falling out under you, and you're shook. ~But Scott handled it. He was calm, and a solid oak to the opposing firm's threats, and insults. ~ He simplified things, and even during my personal difficult moments, he was a calm, fair, firm, voice. ~ He may seem unaffected at times but that is because he absolutely knows what he is doing. Let the man work.~ I could not have had another attorney. Scott is fantastic.

My review & rating could not be greater, and my experience was highly exceptional. My only regret was not hiring Scott sooner. I started with a divorce attorney who would not fight, would not stand up for me or my case. He was walked all over, and I got used to losing and being extremely dissatisfied or hurt with the process and my representation. My divorce would still be pending, or I would have lost big, if I kept on with the status quo. This was nowhere near the experience with Scott. We filed motions in court almost immediately after hiring him.

Initially I thought that Eslpin & Weight were as the positive reviews indicated. However, it was only after, that I realized that they never hand my interest in mind. Something that could have been handled very efficiently and cost effective was prolonged in order to make more money off me and my ex. Scott Weight was the attorney. All was done under the guise of "my interest." I am only writing this because hopefully I can help someone avoid the nightmare I lived and only recognized after the fact.
