Frostwatch Vineyard & Winery is a small family owned operation committed to making high quality, hand crafted wine primarily from grapes grown in our Bennett Valley vineyard. Since our first vintage in 2002 our goal has been to produce powerful fruit driven wines that are stylish, balanced and food friendly. To achieve this we rely on careful viticultural and winemaking practices that blend the best of old world tradition with modern technology and technique. We invite you to taste these wines and share our excitement.
Services
Frostwatch Vineyard & Winery is owned and operated by Brett Raven and Diane Kleinecke. While 2002 was the winery's inaugural vintage, our interest in wine dates back to the mid-1980's when we met while attending U.C. Davis. After completing our educations, we married and went to work in San Francisco's Financial District.
All of the fruit used to make our wines comes from the Frostwatch Vineyard. Over the years we have topped over or replanted to varieties we believed would thrive on our site and help us to make exceptional wines. Swan Clone for our Pinot Noir, Wente Clone from the Platt Vineyard and Semillon to compliment out Sauvignon Blanc.
Frostwatch is located in the recently established Bennett Valley appellation, located just south and to the East of the city of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. Roughly defined by the Matanzas Creek watershed, it has been estimated that Bennett Valley had some 2,000 acres planted to wine grapes in the mid-1800s.
Winemaking and farming represented a significant career change for Brett who spent his early working life as an attorney in a law office in San Francisco. After making the move to Sonoma County he developed our Bennett Valley vineyard along with the help of veteran consultant, Bob Dempel. Along the way, his passion for wine grew and Brett began applying himself to the art and science of winemaking.

Tasted with owner and winemaker Brett Raven on October 20. Had a great experience at this home, overlooking the vineyards. Could not have had a better time.
We are primarily red wine drinkers but Brett's 2012 Kismet, a blend of Sauvignon blanc and Semillon was quite tasty. Very creamy taste to it.
The Pinots were very good as well. The 2012 was more full-bodied than the 2011.
Star of the tasting were the 2011 and 2012 merlots. Light and easy to drink, with loads of fruit. The 2012 is new and fuller and richer.
Another great experience with the winemaker--check out Frostwatch.
