Pridwin Hotel
The Pridwin Hotel and Cottages is a classic all-wood American resort hotel that has been providing guests a unique experience on Shelter Island since 1927. The nearly 10-acre site on Crescent Beach was selected for its protected waters, gentle bay breezes, and for its breathtaking water views.

A seasonal hotel, the Pridwin opens in May and is in full swing from the last weekend of June through Labor Day with a range of resort amenities including a private pool, small private beach, two docks, the excellent Moussa Drame Tennis Club and the Pridwin bar, lounge and restaurant overlooking the bay.
Services
Ideal for a couple who like a little more space or a small family, these rooms are equipped with a king and a double sofa bed. Available on 2nd and 3rd floors. Ideal for 2, these rooms come with a queen, king, or two twin beds and are available on all floors. A cozy and bright room for two, the Pridwin water views offer an osprey eye's view onto the bay.
Ideal for a couple or small family. The first bedroom has a king, the second two double beds. Living area has a comfortable seating area with fire place. There is a separate eat-in kitchen. This cottage does not have a water view, but a beautiful woodland view and nice front lawn for lounging.

The one-bedroom cottage has a king bed and living room with fire place, sofa bed, kitchenette, and entrance to a private deck which has a partial water view of the bay and pool.Designed in the 1920s and thus modest in proportion by modern standards, our rooms offer a private bath, air-conditioning, free WiFi and a choice of water and sunset or property view.
The Pridwin bar, deck and dining room overlook one of the most beautiful natural scenes on the East Coast. In season, we serve breakfast, lunch, cocktails and dinner daily and much of the fish served is Pridwin caught. Our menus change daily to ensure the freshest seasonal local ingredients. Don't miss our famous Wednesday Night Cookouts with live music!
For the free spirits, lovebirds and active types there is no better escape than the Pridwin. We have our own private pool and beach for swimming--lined with chaise lounges for just relaxing-as well as kayaks, sunfish, paddle boards for use on the bay and single-speed bikes for local touring. There are many places to discover on Shelter Island, from secluded beaches to quaint shops to one of the greatest nature preserves, Mashomack, in the region.
The Pridwin offers Shelter Island's most spectacular location to you and up to 250 of your guests, for an unforgettable day of celebration. Enjoy our relaxed atmosphere, bay views, and unsurpassed sunsets as you dine and dance the evening away amid our gentle rolling lawns and beautiful beachside setting.

The hotel has stunning water / sunset views. Very chill vibe with access to kayaks, paddle boards, and tennis courts. The rooms are somewhat dated but adds to the overall sleepy charm and lends to the feeling of being "away". Service in the summer consists of young European imports who at times can be slow but are doing their best. Expect to wait a bit for tables and service at the restaurant, but how can you complain, when your wait involves such a breathtaking view.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel; absolutely not worth the money. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the view (which is spectacular) and the pool and restaurant. The hotel itself is very rundown, outdated and musty. Our room looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned in years, there was so much dust and hair on the carpet. The white grout in the bathrooms was black with dirt and the shower tiles were cracked and literally chipping off the wall. The common areas are in dire need of a refresh, you feel like you have stepped back in time in a very bad way. The service

Attempted to get in touch with an events manager multiple times here over the past 2 weeks and was never able to reach someone. I had left voicemails and emails and messages with the rude front desk attendants and never got anywhere. Very sad was looking forward to possibly having our event there.

Went to a wedding this past weekend. Booked Two rooms in February and pre-paid. Two days after the wedding, I saw three bills on my credit card for (1) $25.64, (2) $340.46 and (3) $1,115.13.

I immediately called the Pridwin. They told me it was their error and that they would reverse the charges. Three days later the charges still appeared on my credit card.

I called again and notified them. They told me they did everything they could from their end and that I should call my bank to rectify.

I won't be going back and I'd be very leery giving out any credit card information to these

Pros: GORGEOUS property and views, comfy beds, accommodating staff, great driver.
Cons: very run down, the rooms smell musty, you can hear everything in surrounding rooms, bizarre rundown game room, expensive for an old small room.
This hotel could be a gem after renovation. If that happens, I would try again.

Regrettably the hotel offered supposedly discounted rooms in the web this past weekend BUT ONLY called reserved (booked) guests the day before to explain that a wedding was happening at the hotel and asked if it was "ok". Flights and car rental and all else had been arranged. We had no choice.
What we were NOT told was that virtually the entirety of the hotel was exclusively for the wedding from 4pm until 10pm on our Saturday night stay. The entire front of the hotel, the veranda, and we were prohibited from even entering the bar momentarily to order a takeaway drink. The hotel manager

This is a review based entirely on the Wednesday night cookout / BBQ dinner.

My family decided to attend the Wednesday night cookout dinner and it turned into an absolute disaster and a decision we regretted from the moment we paid for the meal (which they insist you do before you actually see the food and the (unbelievably long) line to get the food. There are in fact signs when you pay that say "All sales final". While this is an odd notice to post at a nice hotel, it's increasingly clear why they post this - we saw more than one family return asking for their money back after

This was a solid spot for lunch. We sat on the patio overlooking the water and the food was fantastic. The head chef came out to greet my girl friend and I to ask how all the food was and hear about our experience. That was a nice personal touch.

A few of the items we really enjoyed were the charcuterie platter and the Cobb salad!

The atmosphere, food and service were all on point. I will definitely be returning for a 2nd visit.

I don't even know what to say...maybe this is the ONLY way I can get a return email or call from Jennifer or the general manager, Glen Petry. I have a billing issue from LAST year, 2017. I emailed to resolve it when the hotel closed for the season and NO response. Then I went to rebook this year and my payment wasn't correctly captured. It was the ONLY time I got attention from Jennifer. When I brought up my unresolved billing issue, radio silence. I have called 8 times, NO return phone call. I have emailed 6 times, NO response. I have tried to email Glen and his email cannot be given

I stayed two nights at this hotel and the customer service was great! The staff was friendly and helpful and the water views were amazing. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the beach area was very nice. One of the staff went above and beyond to give my friend a personal item that was not available in their glass case of items for sale. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Shelter Island.

The Pridwin is where you lose track of time. It could be 1920 if you weren't noticing the hair styles, which is nice because I wanted to get away from all the craziness going on in the world. There is a restaurant attached with a glorious outdoor, covered deck that offers photograph-worthy views of colorful sunsets. They catch their own fish and I've never had better. I swam in their giant pool, walked across the street to the bay for occasional dips in the salt water, bicycled, met people at their Wednesday night barbecue (complete with live music), shot pool... and never had to leave

Place is a disaster, run by youngsters for underaged partiers.

Don't plan on sleeping if you stay here.

We got bed bugs, no hot water, everything is very sticky...

I've had the delight of attending an annual managers meeting here for the last 4 years. The desk staff is always extremely helpful, as are all the other employees I've interacted with. The food is amazing; delightful appetizers, well put together entrees, and everything I'm looking for in a full dining experience. Maybe it's just my stroke of luck but each time I've stayed here the pool has been scattered with beautiful people. What more could you ask for, great food and beautiful people.

Although this is an older family owned establishment, it's truly a relaxing

The Two stars are for the outside of the hotel. Small pool (at least there is one), tennis courts, dock with non motorized activities (kayaking, hydro bikes, etc) which btw are not included in the high per night rate! Once inside the quaint but tired hotel things start to go downhill. We were given a 3rd floor room and an actual metal key that we needed to sign some form to receive. We then proceeded to look for an elevator for myself, pregnant wife, 2 kids, and 4 suitcases. What do you know?, no elevators in the hotel! The lady at the front desk looked at us and asked begrudgingly...do you want

Lets just say this place is absolutely amazing. SO peaceful, and the view is to die for. Id recommend going on a Wednesday for the BBQ! guests are served first at their awesome buffet style dinner. (It does get super busy with other guests from the island who attend) There's good music, good food, GREAT cocktails... oh and unlimited beer until 8:30? THAT had me sold. It really just was a beautiful experience.. one that shouldn't be missed.

The Pridwin Hotel is not a Holiday Inn Express, it is not a Courtyard Marriott, it is a step back into the past. Don't go to this hotel if you want a cookie cutter experience and fast check-in check-out lanes. This is a hotel for people that want to enjoy Shelter Island and the people that live and work there, it is a place to bring your family so you can get a taste of what was and what could be. It is the people that work at this hotel that make it remarkable. I had the chance to stay three nights at this treasure and didn't regret one second. I met Jean Torrealba, the F&B

I've been staying at the Pridwin for 3 summers and it is the ABSOLUTE best. The views from the hotel and restaurant are exceptional, the food is excellent, and the service is great.

My recommendations: Hang out in the lobby on rainy days and get to know other hotel guests, take a bike out and explore the island (shell beach is amazing), and definitely go swimming off the dock in front of the hotel!

The Hamptons are not my cup of tea (too trendy) but if you're looking for a place to relax, swim, and enjoy nature - the Pridwin on Shelter Island is the place to go.
