Dunlap-Swain always has and always will strive to be your one stop for all your automotive needs. Complete customer satisfaction is what we want for every customer, and we will do our very best to achieve it! Two Texas Friends Jack Swain and Devereux Dunlap came out of WW1 in 1918/19 and opened up the very first Dunlap-Swain in July of 1919 at the corner of Young and Akard.
You will need to have this fixed before your vehicle can be inspected. We can check this out for you and repair the problem. After the vehicle has been repaired it will need to be driven on the average approximately 50 miles to run the vehicles emission monitors. Some vehicles will run them in as little as 10 miles.
This company was founded by 2 men that fought together in World-War1. While fighting in the war they became close good friends. At the end of the war with their combined bonuses of $60 they started Dunlap-Swain Tire Company in July of 1919. As we celebrate 101 years of business we also celebrate your service in keeping America Free and Safe for us all.
When you come to the shop for the 1st time it can be a bit confusing. This shop was built in the early 1940s. Orignally the shop/repair area was outside and not a enclosed shop. So now the office is located inside of the shop area. The Main Entrance is accessible by going through the 3rd Large Bay (Marked above this door is: Service/Cashier) Door from the right side looking at the shop.

My car broke down (a radiator hose popped off & busted) and unfortunately my Onstar was NO HELP but fortunately I was able to park at this station.
I am so thankful!!! Onstar gave me the run around until 3am, so I ended up just leaving my car parked. I called Dunlap & Swain at 6:30 am and left a voicemail explaining my situation. They promptly called me back after they opened & told me not to worry about anything & they said they could go fix my car!! I was beyond thrilled! Did I mention I live a little over an hour from Dallas???

I have used Dunlap Swain to work on numerous cars over the past 20+ years; they consistently provide quality services at reasonable prices. It's not often that you hear this about mechanics, but I trust them -- if they say it's needed, I know it is. I've been taking my 2003 Toyota matrix to Dunlap-Swain for 2 years now. They have been very consistent in providing accurate estimates of the work required and the expected cost. They're usually able to do same day as long as my car is in early enough. They've been great at communicating which repairs are essential and which can wait. Example: my car was shaking badly at idle. They diagnosed degraded engine mounts installed by my previous mechanic to fix a similar problem several years ago. Dunlap could easily have told me that all 8 needed to be replaced, but instead charged me for just the 4

This review is specifically for new Dallasites. Eventually you’ll need a state inspection for your vehicle. And likely even service on an older model.
Well, I’m saving you the research and telling you that this is your Downtown service station. John and Alan (GM and Service manager) are straight shooter that have your back. Say hello when you arrive.
My inspection was well explained (fee wise) and took about 20 minutes start to finish with no appointment and a few phone calls that the station needed to answer in the middle.

When I'm finished swimming today, I've Dunlaps.
This is part of a gas station just near one of the coolest party neighborhoods of Dallas about half a mile from all the clubs, and contains some pretty important things called gas pumps - which if you are low after cruising up and down past all of the nightclubs all evening and checking out all the studs and hotties, then this is exactly what you need. It's saved us on two occasions so far - so we're glad it's here even though the prices are not that cheap.

Excellent and timely service. I had two separate problems with my car, and both times they were able to look at my car and finish the job faster than I expected.
One of the problems I had was with my car overheating. They informed me that there could potentially be engine damage since my car was so hot. They were upfront and honest about how much it would cost to fix the problem, and informed me that I might still have engine damage. The fixed the problem in one day and luckily there was no engine damage. I trust and thank them for there honesty and quality work. I will go back if I ever have
