JMPNS is an early education experience that is rooted in play, developmentally appropriate practices, and relevant early childhood research. Our families are our most valuable stakeholders. As a cooperative school, enrolled families have ownership. Their voices help guide and shape the program we have today, as well as the one we are building for tomorrow.

James Marshall Parent Nursery School was established in 1954 by a group of parents who decided a preschool program was needed in West Sacramento, since none existed. They obtained approval from the Board of Trustees of the Woodland High School District, however two difficulties still existed. One was to find a building for the school and the other was to find a qualified Director/Teacher.
Membership in a parent participation nursery school is a family experience. We share goals, benefits, and responsibilities. Grown-up participation in the classroom is one of the things that makes JMPNS unique. Each family is responsible for providing at least one adult who can volunteer regularly. However, each class has 2 non-working enrollment slots for those who cannot possibly join during the regularly scheduled class times.
This year's program will consist of three, one week sessions with 12 children in each session. Families may only register for one session. If spots remain open, enrolled families will be contacted for the opportunity to enroll in a second session. All sessions will have an interactive art and music focus.

I love this preschool. It is so good to be able to be a part of my kid's early education. Plus I meet other people going through the same stuff at the same time. Mrs. Hinton is wonderful and helps us learn what age appropriate behaviors are and how to help with other kids too. I couldn't choose a better spot for our family.

A wonderfully unique experience for both the child and the parents. Perfect stepping stone for soon-to-be kindergartners. The everyday workings have a great community feel to them, and the Director has the administration down to a science, really. They manage to run a very efficient and effective 3 hour program using largely clueless rotating parents. The once-a-month parent education meetings are extremely well thought out and useful (and open to public!). The field trips are also very thoughtfully planned and not extravagant on the pocket.
The only downside is that it will probably not work

JMPNS is a great preschool experience! Our oldest attended for a year and a half and was so prepared for Kindergarten as compared to those who didn't attend James Marshall. We have our second child there now and are anticipating the same for them. The learning, socializing and opportunity to spend time with your child in the classroom are second to none. The teacher is great and you can't beat the price for all that you get! Definitely recommend JMPNS for any little one getting ready for school!
