Located just 15 minutes from the Portland airport, we are Vancouver's oldest vineyard and winery. Settled in 1903, our family has been working this land for five generations. The Loafing Shed Tasting Room is open year-round. It's a wonderful place to meet family and friends - outside when the weather is nice or by the fire when it's chilly.
Feel free to bring a snack or picnic. At English Estate, we are interested in what we can grow and create right here on our own farm. Ninety-nine percent of the fruit used in our wines comes from the twelve acres that surround our 1915 barn. English Estate sits just three miles North of the Columbia River on 100 feet of Lauren Gravelly Loam soil.

If you think you don't like Gewurztraminer - try ours. Ours is made in the dry Alsatian style - spicy with notes of honey and orange peel. It pairs well with a wide range of foods - spicy Asian cuisine, smoked salmon, eggs, cheese, sausage and ham. Crisp, refreshing and fruity, you don't need food with this wine but it does very well with seafood, Thai, goat cheese & salad.
Walk to the edge of the vineyards for stunning views of Mt St Helens to the North and you'll understand why we use the name "Gravel Mine Vineyards." Our vines sit atop 100 feet of Lauren Gravelly Loam soil laid down by the Missoula Floods during the last ice age. Turns out this is ideal soil for dry farming.
If you don't want beer, don't worry: there's wine. Vancouver has elegant tasting rooms, like Cellar 55, Koi Pond, and English Estate. They offer a decadent evening for the wine enthusiast ready to experience the area's finest offerings. Grab a flight of local wines and sip away.
For the first several years, Salishan Vineyards in La Center stood as the lone winery, until English Estate planted vines in east Vancouver in 1980 - opening its doors in 2000.Slowly, but steadily, another winery followed, and then another.

Bob and I enjoyed the Food and Wine pairing event syesterday afternoon. We found 3 new favorites...the Gewürztraminer, the 2014 Pinot Noir, and the Sweet Autumn Gold. Manager Andee created a fun and friendly atmosphere. She's super knowledgeable about wines and the local restaurants. The food from Pasta Gigi's was fabulous! It was a great way to spend a spectacular late summer afternoon!

I've driven past this place a billion times and always wanted to stop. Well today I finally did! They were super friendly. Generous pours and several tastes for $7. Some pretty good wines. It was also unique because they included an apple cider from apples grown right on they property as well as a ruby brandy (? Sort of like a port...). Ended up buying a bottle of rosé. Glad I finally stopped in!

Over Labor Day weekend I visited my friend in Portland and found an adorable food & wine pairing at the English Estate Winery, which is just on the border of Washington. This 115-year-old winery had a most charming ambience, you could feel the memories and moments within the cottage walls. The space is just large enough that you don't feel cramped by other guests but there is definitely a warmth and camaraderie that only comes when a room is full of people. The Labor Day weekend special offered several local wines (including some of their award-winning Pinots) and bites of food (cheese

Looking for a real nice and cool outing with someone special, than thus is the place to visit. You can taste 7 wines for $7 and then if you buy a bottle....and you will, they will give you a discount. My wife and I had an absolutely amazing time. While there we learned a lot about the winery, and about wine itself.
