I needed a knee-scooter and Hartzells was the only place I could find that had one in stock.. and accepted by my insurance. Unfortunately, they would not release the equipment to me until all the paperwork was completed and that could take weeks... so they told me. Who plans to fall and break a bone? How could a person in need prepare weeks ahead? I need the scooter in a timely fashion and they are refusing to allow me to purchase it straight out of pocket.
My rep at the insurance company actually told me they were confused why Hatzells wouldn't sell it to me and take my chances submitting

Just bought a replacement wheelchair. It was delivered when they said it would be. Sweet fellow at the door made sure I had no questions, even though I was already in a wheelchair. It seems to be a very nice chair. Glad I called them. A competitor of theirs had become very unreliable. Looks like Hartzells just gained a new permanent customer.

They don't keep in stock the size brace I needed. I Physically went to the pharmacy to prove I couldn't fit in the size they had, and placed the order, requesting it be expedited even since they said it takes 3 - 4 days. Apparently they needed additional information from my doctor. They made a single request. No one bothered to tell me there was a hold up. (Believe me, I'm also not happy with the Doc's office) I'm in pain and I expected the brace before the weekend. Tuesday I call to see where it is and this is when I'm told there is a problem. I have a procedure

The employees at Hartzells are above and beyond helpful. As my dad was soon transitioning out of the hospital he was going to need some safety equipment for the bathroom. The staff showed me all my options, had some things on display to see and play with and explained the pros and cons of each option. She was able to think of things we hadn't considered and saved us from buying unnecessary items as well.
Hopefully you'll never need medical equipment but if you do, I highly recommend this store.
