Administering a Trust after the passing of a loved one can be a complicated and overwhelming process. The Successor Trustee is tasked with following all of the instructions within the Trust document, while having to carefully abide by state and federal laws that govern the decedent's estate. Serving as a Successor Trustee is a significant responsibility, and many of the tasks required within a Trust Administration may be unfamiliar or unknown.
Children with special needs or disabilities often require a lifetime of care, and parents must start planning early in their child's life to ensure that there are enough financial resources set aside and that foundational safeguards are in place to guarantee a secure future if mom or dad is no longer alive, or physically able to provide care for their child someday.
How do you leave funds for the benefit of the child without causing the child to lose important public benefits?. How do you make sure that your other children are not over-burdened with caring for the sibling with special needs?. What is fair in terms of distributing your estate between your child with special needs and your other children?.

I could not have chosen a better law office to support my daughter and I in getting the legal help we needed for malpractice. Susan made what could have been a long, horrendous process, very easy on us and held our hand every step of the way. We were treated like family and I trust the entire team whole heartedly.

I have trusted Susan Katzen with our family trust and special needs trusts since 2007 when I realized the attorney who drew up our first trusts in 2004 had made multiple errors in the special needs trust. Susan worked endlessly helping me understand social security, tax law and listened carefully to my personal wishes. She was patient and thorough. We just amended our trusts using her office again. I can’t recommend her enough!

Susan Katzen epitomizes the best character attributes one looks for in a trust attorney. She is deeply passionate about her clients and strives to understand their needs as she presents them with creative options to achieve their desired goals. I am continuously impressed with her breath of depth and knowledge which result in her ability to address very specific needs and create highly-personalized trusts and life plans.
I first hired Susan more than ten years ago and have worked closely with her to develop trusts for other family members and to revise existing trusts to meet current regulations

Susan Katzen and her team of attorneys are a highly qualified group of professionals specializing in drafting and litigating matters involving Supplemental Needs Trusts for disabled persons. I spent over two-years discussing trusts with various law firms in order to provide for one of our family members and finally came upon Susan's firm, and received immediate attention and solid advice on how to deal with the complexities of these trusts. Susan is very personable and deals well with family members having challenges. I highly recommend this firm for these types of cases.

The Law Office of Susan A Katzen has become the benchmark of excellence by which I measure all legal representation. Their approach to my unique and difficult family situation was based on years of experience, as well as research into other areas of law which impacted the settlement of my father’s estate.
One of the least glamorous, but most essential components of that process was the administration of my father’s trust after his death. Susan and her staff thoroughly explained and reviewed with me each step I was responsible for as trustee, from contacting government agencies to providing
