I established the J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home in 1999 and opened to serve families in 2000. I am a 13 th generation Eliot resident and have enjoyed serving our community for many years in a number of ways, including as an instructor in many areas of public health, past president of th Eliot Police Benevolent Association, and was honored as the youngest Fabian Drake Award Recipient in Eliot.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.
The person who received the flowers followed up with a photo and the arrangement looked absolutely gorgeous and was received in perfect condition. And I like the fact that they let me know the arrangement had been delivered.
The Veterans Administration provides certain benefits at the time of death for those who have served our country. The paperwork involved to apply for these benefits can be overwhelming. The Veterans Benefits Administration provides a U.S. flag at no cost, to drape over the casket or be placed with the urn of a deceased veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces.
