Our philosophy is what separates us from other dance studios. We strive for a non-competitive environment, where all students are made to feel welcome and achieve a sense of accomplishment.
All of our choreography, classroom formats and music are planned using proven childhood development principles. Consideration is given with all of our classes to age appropriate costuming, subject content and language, as well as dance moves.

Services
You will be pleased with our friendly and knowledgeable staff. We personally enroll each student, offering a variety of classes and lesson times. Our "Combination Class" is the most popular and included ballet, jazz, and basic gymnastics. This is a wonderful program with dance steps and technique that builds from year to year.
Borgo Sisters School of Dance was founded in 1934 by two sisters, Frances and Virginia Borgo, who realized their dream of teaching young children to dance, by opening our previous studio at 224 N. Washington in Royal Oak. Each element of the weekly lesson is planned and prepared in advance by skilled teachers.
We are very proud of our dedicated teaching staff. Some of our staff have taught multiple generations of Borgo students and have trained new teachers coming up through the ranks. Most of our teachers danced as young children with us, and were selected not only for their dance abilities, but also for their communication skills and dedication to our Borgo philosophy.
This class is our most popular class! Our combination classes provide our dancers with a full spectrum of basic dance skills in Jazz and Ballet, as well as flexibility and strength, giving them a strong foundation to build on. Classes consist of ballet barre work, ballet and jazz steps and combinations, and most classes are taught 4 dances per season (2 jazz and 2 ballet).
The Borgo philosophy for our ballet and pointe classes is to instill in our students a love of the art, to carry themselves with grace and poise, to understand and apply ballet technique and most importantly to enjoy dancing. This setting creates a lively, nurturing, friendly atmosphere for dancers to explore the beauty of ballet, become familiar with and accepting of their bodies, make long lasting friendships and gain valuable confidence!

My daughter is a current student, and we absolutely adore Borgo! We are three out of four generations of dancers here: my late grandmother, Eleanor Sharpe, myself and sister and now my own daughter. Their philosophies are amazing. My daughter is 9 and in her 3rd or 4th year. The girls are told they are beautiful as they are - they do not need makeup. Very body, gender, color, everything inclusive. Even in this very tough pandemic year, the school has been amazing. Some of the teachers came together and purchased the school this year and are doing the Borgo name proud. Thank you all for the confidence

All 3 of my daughters took lessons at Borgo as did I as a young girl. My eldest really took to dance and continued for 14 years at Borgo. They are so supportive not only with dance, but other aspects of a growing girl’s other interests. Their open and welcoming philosophy allows girls to pursue dance and other interests as well lending to the development of a well rounded individual. I can’t say enough positive things about this studio. In addition to teaching dance, they encourage good behavior and etiquette to those real young ones, which is a great extension of their teaching. Keep up the
