Owner Marc Fishbone has worked 20 years in the gem and jewelry trade. After attaining his diploma in jewelry repair, diamond setting and wax modeling casting in 1997, he went to Sri Lanka (Ceylon) - one of the world's largest producing gemstone countries - to learn about gems first-hand. He was able to get into the mines and see how the sapphires and other gems are dug out of pits ranging in depth from 4 to 35 feet.
He worked with one of the country's largest gem dealers and learned about grading, cutting and polishing stones and grew to understand the importance of choosing his own stones. When he returned to the United States he sold gems to jewelers from Key West to Bar Harbor.

Services
We will design a piece for you or work with you to design your own unique creation. We work in silver; yellow, white & rose gold; and platinum. Custom jewelry is made by one of two methods: Lost-Wax Casting or Fabrication. Which process is used depends upon what you are trying to achieve. Both processes begin with a sketch.
A growing area of Black Orchid's business is the reconfiguration of damaged jewelry and estate jewelry into new creations. Over the years, many of our customers have commented that they have a stray earring, broken jewelry or an inherited piece that is not to their taste just sitting in a jewelry box.
Whether you want diamond, colored stone or plain band rings, owner/designer Marc Fishbone will work with you to create a ring or rings that will reflect who you are and the pledge you are making to each other. Though Black Orchid's specialty is colored gemstones, we have access to diamond suppliers who can provide any size, cut and grade stone at extremely competitive prices.
Owner Marc Fishbone, a certified gold and silversmith, provides all manner of repair service from fixing a broken clasp, checking for loose stones and re-pronging where necessary, re-shanking thin or broken bands, replacing or resetting stones, buffing out scratches, to simply resizing a ring or replacing a watch battery.
Colored gemstones are Black Orchid's specialty. Owner Marc Fishbone has a passion for them - the usual and the unusual - sapphires in every color of the rainbow, rubies, garnets, opals, tourmaline, amethyst, alexandrite, citrine, iolite, chrome diopside, chrysoberyl, topaz, lapis, rubellite, labradorite, and more!
