The Chosun Taekwondo Academy, founded in 1997 by Master Doug Cook, a senior student of Grandmaster Richard Chun, 9th Dan Black Belt, is a holistically-oriented, martial arts institute based on traditional Asian principles and authentic Korean martial arts doctrine. Literally translated, the term "Chosun", an ancient name for Korea, can be defined as "land of the morning calm."
It is the mission of the Chosun Taekwondo Academy to provide authentic martial arts instruction to adults, teens and children at an affordable price in a safe and encouraging environment. In keeping with this policy, Chosun students are taught fundamental drills and exercises targeted at self-defense, increasing flexibility and physical fitness.

Services
The Chosun Taekwondo Academy offers a number of programs and classes geared towards students of all ages and belt ranks. From our KickStart program to exclusive Black Belt classes, members are guided on a clear and comprehensive path to advancement.
There is nothing haphazard about the Chosun curriculum; techniques are clearly written out on Belt Requirement Forms to avoid confusion and presented to the student for inclusion in a training journal that they are expected to maintain throughout their membership.Since classes are unlimited, students can tailor their training to accommodate their needs and suit their schedule.

All CHOSUN Masters, Instructors and Assistant Instructors are rigorously trained in the pedagogy of traditional taekwondo. And, since proficiency is not gained by accident, our teachers attend special sessions dedicated to promoting their success in transmitting the art on to those worthy of its virtues.
Taekwondo, literally translated as "foot-fist-way", is the traditional martial art and Olympic sport of Korea. It differs from Japanese karate in that it features kicking skills but utilizes all parts of the body for self-defense. At CHOSUN, we teach a pure form of taekwondo focusing on cultivating the mind, body and spirit.
Join us for a martial pilgrimage to the "Land of the Morning Calm", one that will change the way you view your Taekwondo practice forever. Train at the famed Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Instructor Academy in Yangsu-ri, the Kumgang Taekwondo Center, Golgulsa Temple located high the the mist covered mountains of Kyongju.
Promotion Examinations are held every quarter, generally during the months of February, May, August, and November. Students are formally invited to test by the instructors based on their ability to demonstrate proficiency in skill sets mandated by belt rank. Once the instructors feel the student is prepared to test, their eligibility will be symbolized by affixing a stripe on the tip of their current belt.

My son started at 5yrs old, and he makes a year attending this August. He loves going and has developed an interest in overall exercise in addition to Taekwondo training. The staff is excellent with all ages and very friendly and informative. Love this place. The instructors are especially awesome and great. They teach and give structure to students while also showing care and love.

Coming from an upbringing of never having known anyone, or never myself training in a martial art, this school has been nothing short of truly educational- in both mind and spirit. My almost 7 year old has been going for almost two years and the school has not only taught him traditional TKD, but it teaches him life skills like mindfulness, and work ethic, and respect for both himself, others and all living things. It's amazing.

I can't say enough about Chosun. My daughter has been attending this school for 2 years. I have definitely noticed an increase in her confidence. At Chosun, they train in traditional Taekwondo. Sudents are taught self defense while also learning self respect and respect for others. I am most impressed with the sense of community within this school among parents, students and instructors. This is truly a wonderful and positive place for authentic quality Taekwondo training.

We have been studying and training TaeKwonDo with Chosun Academy and Master Doug Cook for the past 3 years, we began as a white belt and we will be testing for my 1st degree Black Belt in two weeks at the age of 53. Both my children train as well, my 11 year old son has earned his 1st degree. You are never to old or young to begin this rewarding path.
We love the traditional training and education curriculum at Chosun, I have seen significant improvements in my health both physical and mental and that of my children as well. I would highly recommend Chosun for anyone who is considering pursuing

Chosun Taekwondo is an amazing school. In fact, there are very few like it left in the United States. Chosun provides a traditional approach to Taekowndo, so there is a lot of emphasis on forms (poomse) in addition to sparring and self defense. There are more active adult black belts at Chosun than almost any other martial arts school I have ever visited, trained in or known of. Master Cook teaches the philosophical principals of Taekwondo into every lesson. By joining Chosun, you are gaining access to true mind-body martial arts training.

Chosun Taekwondo Academy is my second home. I began as a white belt at age 45 and have progressed to black belt Instructor at this wonderful school. I have always really appreciated the fact that so many adult students populate our dojang--fully 70% of the student body, the reverse of most martial arts schools. That fact makes training for the adult practitioner a very fulfilling experience by allowing a variety of training partners of similar ability. I also love the full-time schedule, allowing me to train during the day with other adults. The curriculum is rigorous and Master Doug Cook is demanding

Like a lot of busy, stressed, and pressed- for- time parents, I had decided that it was time to do something positive for myself. Life can be tough at times, and the daily grind can become all consuming. Mental exhaustion replaces the good kind of tired that one feels after physical activity, and this exhaustion seeps into all aspects of our lives. Friends suggested ways of "taking breaks", such as going to a spa, visiting friends, getting a massage. All of those things are nice treats, but I wanted something more. Something solid that would challenge me on all levels. Exercise my body, my mind

My daughter and I began at Chosun Taekwondo Academy over a decade ago as white belts. Currently, we are both Fourth Dan Instructors at the school and are proud to train and teach in such an enriching environment. Chosun Taekwondo offers traditional taekwondo with traditional values. It offers both a physical and mental curriculum which lead to a path of self enrichment. I would strongly recommend Chosun for any adult or child having an interest in the martial arts. It is a school that won't disappoint.

My husband and I both train at Chosun Tae Kwon Do Academy. We had trained in other schools before moving to Warwick, and we were looking for a school that offered a traditional experience. Master Cook personally teaches many of the classes and we were not obligated to sign any contracts when we joined. We have found the training to be very fulfilling, both mentally and physically. Additionally, we have made many friends, as all of the students and instuctors are approachable, kind and genuinely interested in advancing the school and its purpose. For these reasons, we joined a group of students

I have studied Yoga since my teen years, had countless instructors, and even taught classes in Hatha Yoga to my fellow college students at New Paltz many moons ago. However, when I stepped into the Yoga Studio of Patty Cook at the Chosun Tae Kwon Do Academy, I felt I had found a teacher the likes of none other I had known. Patty has an uncanny sense of being able to meet each student "where they are" in their practice and to help them grow. She is so knowledgeable with regard to human anatomy and physiology, and because of this, I trust her with my body. There is no "one size fits all" teaching
