Many people have discovered serenity and peace in the aftermath of addiction. Using the simple principle of "one day at a time, " individuals from all walks of life move forward, leaving behind the nightmare of destructive behaviors and embracing the hope of recovery. Families that have struggled for years with a loved-one in the grips of alcoholism or drug addiction are restored through recovery.
Fear is the result of a motivational system that is designed to help us survive. When there is danger, fear motivates us to flee or fight and fear helps us to organize our activities so that we can stay out of harm's way.

However, if you experience fear or anxiety that is persistent, intense and seems uncontrollable or you experience an out-of-proportion dread at the thought of everyday activities, you may benefit from consultation with a psychologist. Many times there are simple strategies for alleviating runaway fear; there are also very reliable therapeutic strategies for treating anxiety disorders that are more severe and protracted, like PTSD.
