I like the fact the shop is upscale and professional as I don't find with some other barber shops, which allow people to hang out, hustle stuff etc. I stopped going to one shop because too often the Barber would not show up. He would just have his clients waiting. He didn't take his job nor profession serious.

As Fire Marshall Bill used to say on In Living Color - LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING! (Lol). I went to this establishment for the first time yesterday after 2 bad experiences by 2 other barbers from other barber shops. This place right here!!!! Man listen, when I called the shop, I spoke to Kyle and this brother was professional, courteous, and friendly over the phone. Then he told me how the process works. He told me to download their app. I said what! These brothers have their own app!

This barbershop experience was truly great. Given the circumstances around Covid - 19, the shop did a great job helping the process go relatively smoothly. Kyle gave me a haircut worth a million bucks. He really showed his attention to detail in working with my hairline, beard, and hair texture. What also sets this shop apart from many other local spots is their willingness to work on different hair types (curly, straight, thin etc.).

Due to the pandemic, I had to switch my barber when I finally wanted to get a haircut. Because of the new rules involving the pandemic you need to make an appointment now. I wanted a barber that had a website or app that I could easily access and Steel Mclean had that. The app is simple to use, you choose your barber and they give you a wait time and when your up next in the queue they will send you a notification. Rayon gave me the absolute best haircut I've had in years! Rayon's haircuts are precise, neat, and quick! He also designed the interior of the shop which is very NYC chic

Update: 3 years later, still at them same shop! They have implemented an app which all other barbershops should adopt, makes appointments much easier and less clutter inside. Rayon has always been exceptional at his detailed work. Furthermore, he has created his own line of products and has been featured in magazines. His passion and his art in hair should be replicated in the barbershop industry.

Steel Mclean is the best barber experience I've had in years. The owner, Rayon, is incredibly personable and gives a great haircut at a fair price. The location is great, right near the South Orange train station and the shop is beautiful, sleek and immaculate. It feels very high end without being snooty or expensive. It is a great place to bring kids. Rayon kept my son (3) engaged and happy. We are two satisfied customers!

I gave myself a close shave using some pharmacy products and numerous razor bumps appeared on my neck and face. Rayon and Kyle recommended a SteelMclean product called Parallel. It worked wonders. Within two days majority of my bumps were gone. Their products (in addition to their barber services) are amazing. Highly recommend.

Rayon is awesome what he does and the business is great! Somehow he is quick and the fade is perfect! This makes it super easy to get an appointment and his app lets you know if it is busy. I have used the exclusive products and they are a bit expensive but I learned they are well worth it.
Being as cheap as I can be sometimes, I went to Rayon after another cheap place butchered my haircut, he noticed and we laughed but he understood and didn't give me a hard time. In fact he worked to make SteelMclean THE go-to for all your barber needs.

1. To get a haircut, it is highly recommended that you download the app and get in the cue. While Yelp says "walk-ins welcome", I was greeted with confusion when I walked in and asked for an appointment because I didn't use the app.
2. Come with your hair freshly washed. When I came in with a little product residue, the barber didn't like it. They don't (or at least of my cut) use a spritz bottle of water. It's a dry cut.
3. I'm unsure of their pricing model. While the board on the wall said haircuts

Just moved to the neighborhood and came across SteelMclean Barbers while looking around on yelp. After downloading their app and getting Q'd up, I came to store and was greeted by Rayon. Rayon was very professional and knew exactly the style I was looking for after showing him some pictures and explaining. Got a very clean cut and was really happy with the outcome - I'd definitely come back.

One of the best barbershops that I’ve been to in a long time!! Great black owned business.. My cut was done by a female barber by the name of (Tahirah)!! She is AWESOME!! I was very SATISFIED !! They are also pleasant and will make you feel very comfortable. I would HIGHLY recommended anyone to this shop👍🏽

Not only do I get a great haircut, which I get compliments on all the time, Rayon and Kyle are also super friendly and make you feel like more than just a customer. I would recommend them to anyone!!

I moved to the area 2 years ago and discovered SteelMclean within walking distance of my apartment. Rayon has been cutting my hair from Day 1 and I've never been disappointed. He is very accommodating and it's obvious he takes his profession and business seriously. The shop also has a lot of their own products. I use their Pomade La Mode for styling my hair and love the product. I now live 45 minutes away from South Orange but still come to SteelMclean for my haircuts. I used to come to this shop before I moved away from from the area a few years ago. Today I came back and was excited to see the familiar faces, receive excellent service, and experience the major upgrades. My most favorite thing had to be the new app (SteelMclean Q) which allows you to hold your spot in line without being present in the shop. The app sends you notification about 20 minutes ahead of time to give you enough time to come to the shop for your cut. I would recommend this shop to anyone in the area.

Rayon is the best! I used to cut my own hair for the past 10 years and now that I'm older and with an aging head of hair I needed extra help. Being really skeptical of barbers, I was recommended to go here by a friend and been happy ever since. He really engages in conversation with his clients and provides advice that can change your whole outlook. They also have their own line of products that really bring your hair back to life (texture cream is my go-to for hold and volumizing). Rayon definitely brought up my look and confidence. Highly recommend.

Just stopped in recently and plan on returning. This place has all the qualities one looks for in an up-scale establishment. The skill & professionalism of the barbers is outstanding. The décor is beyond impressive & you can definitely tell how much pride the owner takes in his establishment. (Killer sound system too!) On top of that they sell high-end hair & skin care products you'd be hard-pressed to find in your usual store. Plus Voss water is sold if you need a quick refreshment. Affordable & worthwhile!! Definitely drop by for a cut if you're in the area!
