Born out of a love relationship with the 100-year-old farmhouse Rick Belliveau bought after moving to Maryland, Rick combined his electrical engineering knowledge, US Navy submarine experience, and natural teaching ability to conduct pre-purchase home inspections for friends and relatives.
He attended the Property Inspectors Training Institute course and quickly pursued the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) membership and certification while doing many more inspections on a part-time basis.The growing demand for his inspections resulted in a career move from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory to a full-time inspections service.

New Construction inspections: A three-phase inspection includes any or all of the following. We encourage buyers to attend! Phase Two: systems evaluation before the drywall is installed, including the completed framing, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling components. For homeowners and those preparing to sell, Highland Home Inspections also conducts Homeowners' Maintenance Inspections or partial, targeted inspections.
A home inspection can last from two-and-a-half to four hours. We encourage our clients to follow the inspector to learn how the house works and how to take care of it, noting any defects. Ask questions, measure windows and walls, walk the floor plan, and imagine your belongings in the house. Envision your family in the new space, the yard, and the neighborhood.
Investors and business owners have different needs than home buyers when they purchase property. The inspectors at Highland own several rental properties between them, and are well versed in the purchase of a building or home from an investor's perspective. Dan was friendly and easy to talk to. I appreciated him showing and explaining how the systems work. He also shared his concerns with me on two things he noticed that were definitely a priority to be addressed by the builder. Lastly, he provide the inspection report very quickly and I was able to forward it to my house's PM that evening.

My son is purchasing his first home, but couldn't be at the Home Inspection so I met Jamie at the house. Jamie was prompt, patient, thorough and very informative. As a first-time buyer, I was very nervous about the inspection process. Debbie at Highland was so helpful. Our Home Inspection was performed by Felipe Machado and I cannot say enough good things about him. He was extremely professional, kind, and informative. He answered all our questions (and we had a lot!) and gave us a lot of information and tips for proper fixes and maintenance of our new home. I highly recommend this company. I'm a first-time home buyer, and went through my home inspection with Andy Vergara. He was thorough, knowledgeable, and personable. He explained everything in terms I could follow and gave me tips on the things I could install or monitor myself. He also explained that he was going to find a lot of issues, but that I should try not too feel overwhelmed, because not everything would need to be addressed right away. I really appreciated the info, as I've never been through an inspection before. I received the final report about 24 hours after the inspection

Incredible and so professional. We had the pleasure of meeting Jamie for our inspection and he was incredible. This was our first time buying a home, and he was exactly what we were looking for. As a first time home buyer, I went in person to my home inspection with Highland and had a great experience. JD walked me through each component of the inspection so I understood what I was looking at, which repairs were needed, and when. The inspection report was also well organized and easy to follow. The one thing I'd recommend adding to the report is an estimate of dates related to piping, plumbing, and electrical (comes in handy for insurance quotes). Thanks again!

Andy was extremely thorough and spent about 4 hours at the inspection. He inspected the outside perimeter and what seemed like every inch of the inside of the house. He pointed out everything he saw, explained what his recommendations were and let me know what he was writing in the report. He encouraged us to stay with him during the inspection so he could point everything out to us. We had the full report within 48 hours and all of his findings helped us negotiate with the sellers.
