This is at the heart of our core values. As we age, tissues can become lax. Sometimes eyelids droop, tear ducts can clog or bumps grow. For some of us, these conditions are inevitable. We see it coming, in our parents, siblings and peers, but when it happens to us, we don't have to accept it. For the most part, medical insurance covers these "eventualities".

Most insurers require (and will pay for) patients to undergo the tests needed to answer these questions. We are required to submit all this data to the insurer. The insurer makes the determination if the procedure will be covered or if it is cosmetic. How the insurer decides this varies from one company to the next.
Dr. Magauran operates at the Surgery Center of New England (SCNE), Baystate Hospital (BHS) and in his office. Most procedures performed at SCNE and BHS involve the use of sedatives which means you need to be observed post-operatively before going home. A typical stay in the post-op area is 30-60 minutes.
Each eyelid contains on average 25 modified sweat glands that run vertically and drain just behind the eyelashes. These glands constantly produce a tiny amount of thin fatty liquid. This fat normally acts to seal the tear film onto the front of the eye, keeping the tears from evaporating prematurely.
Dr. Magauran is at home in the Springfield area. He grew up in Hazardville, Connecticut where his father was a family practitioner who instilled in his twelve children the value of being care givers. Our Dr. Magauran attended the University of Connecticut Medical School, graduating in 1989. As a Scholars in Surgery recipient, Dr. Magauran was headed for Orthopedics or Trauma Surgery, until he discovered Ophthalmology.
