Dana Jane Saltzman, MD LAc
Saltzman has been my primary care doctor for years and she's the only one I'll see! Addiction Specialist and Primary Care Physician located in Midtown Manhattan, New York, NY. Dr. Saltzman realized a calling to medicine during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City in the mid-eighties.

Prior to entering the field of medicine Dr. Saltzman worked in the music business for record companies and publishers. Moving in the NYC club scene of the nineties, Dr. Saltzman saw many of her friends and colleagues become ill with AIDS. She observed the rampant prejudice and stigma that LGBTQ people and IV drug users suffered, and committed herself to becoming a physician specializing in HIV/AIDS.

Midtown Health and Wellness always appreciates feedback from our valued patients. To date, we're thrilled to have collected 186 reviews with an average rating of 4.87 out of 5 stars. Please read what others are saying about Midtown Health and Wellness below, and as always, we would love to collect your feedback.
At Midtown Health and Wellness, we provide primary care with a focus on individuals that are in recovery or are currently using substances. Long term use of drugs and alcohol can negatively impact one's physical health and ongoing medical conditions need to be addressed by physicians with experience in addiction and recovery.
Stopping the use of opiates is very difficult, if not impossible without medical intervention. At Midtown Health and Wellness, we help users of opiates recover by providing Suboxone treatment, an innovative medication that can provide immediate results and break the cycle of addiction. Users of opiates can transition to Suboxone within 24 hours, itself an opiate, to avoid experiencing a painful withdrawal process.
I was excited to see Brazil for the first time, but also anxious about all the potential health risks. Dr. Saltzman helped me understand which vaccinations and medications I needed, how to stay healthy while traveling, avoid illnesses, and what to do if I got sick on my vacation. This made planning so much less stressful and ensured I was prepared for every possibility.
Without outpatient alcohol detox, I don't know how I would have recovered. I stubbornly refused to take time off work, but I would never have been able to navigate the withdrawals myself. The regular check-ins with the team ensured I stayed on track and remained safe throughout. The use of alcohol and benzodiazepines can lead to the development of physical dependence on these substances.

Very bad experience. First off, we had a phone visit and she was rude and disrespectful to me on the phone. I asked her nicely to show a little respect as I am a senior and am used to doctors deferring to my age; she called me "ridiculous." she then overprescribed the medication (suboxone) and i had a severe reaction -- nausea, dizziness, vomiting etc. i left two messages on her two phone nos. but did not receive a call back until our phone appt time which was about 48 hours later. she told me to wait it out, it would go away. it got worse, so i called my primary care physician

If you have any other choice, do not go to this "doctor". I have diabetes with high blood pressure and high chloresterol, and have been taking medication for these conditions for several years prior to going Dr Saltzman. Saltzman prescribed a diabetes medication that I soon found out hadn't been manufactured for a decade, and it took me a few weeks of phone calls to finally get her to prescribe one that was still in production. During my first visit with her she failed to prescribe a prescription for high blood pressure, when I questioned her about it she replied "Why do you

I see the bad reviews and it has not been my experience at all. Dr. Saltzman and Dr. Danielle Defrancis have been nothing but great.

You can get last minute appointments, it's in midtown, they are quick, efficient, friendly, and most importantly they treat you with respect.

I've been a patient here for 2 years, I have had to use other doctors every now and then when traveling and I always miss them.

Dr. Danielle Defrancis is usually the one who takes care of me, and she is great. Super friendly. I just love them both! Would recommend to family members and anyone else.

Ps,
They

Such a terrible practice. I made an appt a month ago and called to confirm that my appt was still today, because I'm the type of person that double checks everything, and I was told my appt had been cancelled without my knowledge. Not only is that incredibly unprofessional, but they offered no help in rectifying the situation - would not fit me in and told me the next appt was in 3 weeks. I would have made an appt elsewhere to address the issue I am currently having if I had known. Will not be returning.

Why do people still come here? You won't see Dr. Saltzman you will see a PA, if you want to see Dr. Saltzman expect to wait a hour for her. I truly believe something is mentally wrong with her I had an appointment to see her at 3 she came in at 4 rushed in with a fresh manicure with the tissue still wrapped between her toes. What a joke. She is scary with multiple personalities, as she came in screaming at her Spanish worker like she were a dog, I felt bad because you don't do stuff like that in front of patients. Anyways I could tell she just wants money she preys on addicts! Don&apos

Very bad inconsiderate staff.
I had an appointment for May 27 although it was Labor Day. I assumed it was open because they gave me two emails of my appointment reminder and a text reminder. But when I went there for my appointment the office was closed.
They have this system where you can text online to talk to them so I wrote them how this happened and how inconsiderate they were especially since they have a cancellation fee when canceled within 24 hours. They should pay me a cancellation fee honestly.
They didn't even text me back or call me or ANYTHING I feel as if they atleast owe

I am not writing this review on anyone in the office besides JONATHAN YEH (PA) this man is way too ignorant to even have a conversation with. he thinks what he says is right and DOES NOT listen to the patient. long story short , Im overweight for my height and I also have had issues reproducing. I seen him first time a week ago and did NON FASTING blood work. High-bad cholesterol was the result. I requested to come back and redraw bloodwork fasting for ACCURATE RESULTS. I have been overweight for a while now and been working on it, so that was nothing new to hear but High cholesterol is a reason

Professional and very great service. I just started seeing this practice and have nothing but high respect for them. They are very helpful, nice and knowledgeable.

They let you know facts and help you keep your health in check.

P.S. Everyone knows they have payments to make even with Insurance so, sad to see people give negative reviews for Health Professionals because they can't think of calling their Insurance to find out their own Payments.

Waited over an hour to be seen by a PA for 2.5 minutes telling me everything is normal, something that could be done with a simple phone call. They constantly "lose" your payments. Good luck getting anyone on the phone, and when you do they are extremely rude. I would recommend going to any other doctor, particularly one that does not treat you as a paycheck.

I only had a wonderful experience with Dr. Saltzman and her staff. She's absolutely caring, attentive and truly listened. She offers a very holistic approach to medicine and I really appreciated her feedback. I left her office feeling mentally charged and ready to take on the day.

Dr Saltzman is down to earth, warm, caring, knowledgeable ..means so much to me to find a Primary care Dr that listens AND understands. THe staff made me feel comfortable, and at ease. My wait time for both of my visits so far.. has been under 15 minutes. My last Dr had me waiting more than an hour for EVERY visit. i highly recommend her. , I feel fortunate to have found her. If i could give her more than 5 stars i would!!

Lost 2 hours of my life waiting for simple appointments, 3 of them! (for which I arrived early).

Standard Western medicine treatment, no specialized approach and no attention to the individual patient concerns.

Would recommend looking elsewhere

Do NOT come here if you want a doctor who cares to follow up on serious matters. Apparently Dr. Saltzman chooses to run her practice like a drive-thru.

During my initial visit I saw Dr. Saltzman for all of 5 minutes at the end of my appointment which unfortunately was a clear indication of how available she would be to me in the future. I had a terrible time getting a hold of Dr. Saltzman for lab results. On more than one occasion I was told Dr. Saltzman would be contacting me with the results but she did not. 3 weeks later they were provided by the medical assistant. Now that I have questions

In short, Dr. Saltzman kicks *ss.

Her staff are absolutely amazing, caring, and competent individuals. Dr. Saltzman, herself, is one cool character even in the face of difficulty.

I will be coming here for a very long time, in sickness and in health.

I can't thank them enough for what they have done for me and my family.

This place has changed my life.
Amid the bustling mania of Midtown Manhattan, this place is an oasis.

Dr. Saltzman is sharp, intuitive, sweet and nurturing. If you need a little mom time, pop in.

Acupuncture with her has changed my life. I'm calmer, more grounded. I have more energy, and I feel stronger mentally, physically and emotionally after every session.

She takes insurance because she's an MD. Other acupuncturists charge hundreds of dollars.

Also, she has weaned hundreds of people off drugs, alcohol, tobacco. She is an addiction specialist!

I am in a pickle today because I'm about the travel oversees with work for a week and a half, and Dr. Saltzman refuses to refill a long-standing prescription that I didn't know had run out until today, unless I come to her office today for an appointment (so she can bill me for the visit). Even though my last check up with her was less than 8 months ago (after which she made me come in for THREE follow up appointments, for no apparent reason).

I am unable to come today due to work and she could not have been less understanding or helpful, and didn't even offer to speak with me

No, just to clarify--my billing issues were not the fault of my insurance company, they were the fault of this office.

- I came in for a physical (aka 100% covered) and got billed for a breathing capacity test, an EKG, and a "breath hydrogen test," none of which was performed.

- I came in for an office visit (aka expecting a bill) and got billed for a well-woman exam (my "second" of the year, aka not covered)

Yes, it's convenient. Yes, the PA I've seen was great. No, it's not worth it.
