Founded in 1934 by nine employees of the City of Tacoma who weren't getting the financial help they needed at traditional banks, TAPCO Credit Union has always been committed to working families. The name says it all. After purchasing a car I had to have a checking account opened and have automatic bill pay set up. I went with the credit union going on my previous experience with credit unions. Tapco says it all! They TAP my account by taking out more payments then what was scheduled. My bank Wells Fargo and I had difficulties getting things straightened out and after months I am still dealing with the mess to my credit. I understand COVID has complicated things, but how does a elevated bill payment company ever make a suggested list unless the shady car deal gets something for such

I would not bank with this bank period, it has nothing but problems when it comes to their system. I don't know why but it seems like the holidays screw it all up but they always seem to be either getting hacked or having some sort of system failure on their end. I currently cannot check my account online, at an ATM or call them, the one time I got a hold of someone before the phone lines are all disconnected, the lady there to me they didn't even know what was wrong. All in all as soon as something is back online I'm getting all my money out and switching banks I'm over it

I have been a customer for 37 years and overall I'm satisfied. However this past holiday weekend some major issues occurred. I went to buy groceries and my debit card was declined which is strange because I know I have money in my account so I try my credit card and again declined which again is impossible because my payments are up-to-date. After leaving with no groceries for my family, I go to a tapco ATM only to find that they are all down. Probably the worst credit union in the business. They operate more like a collection agency than a lender. Once you set up auto withdrawal, they just take payments whenever they feel like it without remorse or consequences. In fact, Wells Fargo opened a fraud investigation in order to get them to stop over drafting the account! They'll even lose payment and then debit your account a second time and accept no responsibility for the consequences YOU face. Theres a reason you've never heard of this company. But, I assure you, they are FAMOUS with the Better Business Bureau.

I have been w tapco for 4 years now amd it has been such a blessing. Ive had my card stolen and money used and w/in days they refunded the money. I have had a couple of personal loans and a couple of car loans and everything was done with ease. Personally at the 6th ave branch jacob and Elizabeth know me by name/face and have consistently gone above amd beyond expectations and even what their job requests of them in order to help me on professional and personal levels showing sincere love for me and thier jobs.

Tapco credit union is beyond unprofessional I’m not sure if it is because they are located in the ghetto or not but there customer service leaves much to be desired not to mention the constant letters in the mail threatening to raise ur rates for not updating ur address even tho they r sending the letters to u directly. Consistent letters to buy there insurance and so on (pure junk mail) definitely looking to get out of my car or refinance to another credit union

Updated review: The bank manager personally reached out to me to help resolve some of the issues I was continuing to have. She went above and beyond to correct the wrongs that had happened on our account and I'm super appreciative of that kind of customer service. The bank services are still difficult to navigate as I typically only bank online, but will continue to leave our car loan with TAPCO for ease.

We have been customers of Tapco for at least 20 years. Probably more like 25 years. February of 2019 we decided to refinance our car. They approved the loan and dropped our interest rate 3 percent. We made an appointment to come in and sign the loan documents for 1:00 p.m. We arrive only to find out our loan processor forgot about us and went to lunch. We waited 30 minutes and finally, someone else found our docs and completed the loan. Eight months later we purchased another car. The dealership asked where we would like to apply for a loan. This is ABSOLUTLEY the worst experience I have ever had when it comes to an auto loan. I wish I could give this institution a Zero. I have had nothing but problems including payments being put in my savings, fees tacked on my payments which has now effected my credit score due to my automatic payments being short. I have had the loan for 2 years and have worked with a minimum 5 different loan officers. I have been continually behind, adjustments of the car payments have mysteriously changed..

Tapco is a great community bank. I love that when I come in I am known, and if I have a problem with something, they take the time to help me figure out my fiscal needs. It is a small bank, and expecting the same level of technology as as large corporation is silly. Nobody should only bank with one institution, and this is the prefect local bank for me.

Sadly, TAPCO does not appear to focus on customer service or convenience. My experience has been a headache from day one of my auto loan, will be closing it off today and will probably never use them again. If you don't physically walk into their branch to make payments (which isnt convenient if you dont live in tacoma), you will spend more money. $15 charges for phone payments, online fees, etc. Luckily, due to their shared branching services, I was able to walk into a closer bank to make payments, even though I would really prefer easy online auto payments.

My husband and I got an auto loan through tapco 2 1/2 years ago. Since day one it has been nothing but a headache. I used to pay in person until we moved back home to VA when my husband got out of the military and now they charge a $15 convenience fee to pay online or by phone. They offered for me to pay in person...yeah let me just travel 3000 miles to do that. Now they added an extra fee for lapse of insurance, I have sent proof 3 times they finally removed the fee. Now two months after removing the fee they claim they never received it and need it again. I would not send my worst enemy to them

I've been a member for a long time. Never had a problem...with service, loans etc. Love their online billpay page. I co-signed for a loan that a relative defaulted on, they worked with me very patiently, no problems!
Have a safety deposit box there...always get quick service with that. Overall excellent service! Very surprised at, and don't have a clue, where these negative reviews are coming from...

I have banked with Tapco 20+ years and have to admit, most of these 1 star reviews are correct. Sadly I have tried to really love tapco over the years but they are stingy, expensive, and really stuck on themselves. The other real bummer is they have 5 locations, period. Unless you want to route money through another bank you better live inside of Tacoma or you gotta drive ahead of you. Fortunately they have shared branching which has turned me on to a much more customer service oriented credit union. I now use them for the large majority of my banking and Tapco as plan "B". I would like to revise my rating. If Yelp offered a 10 star review I would definitely rate Tapco as 10 stars.
About 2 months ago I wrote a review based on an experience I had at tapco that created some heartburn with me. TAPCO Read my review and contacted me with regards to my concerns. Surprisingly they bet over backwards and worked with me to resolve any issues we had.
I would like to say that credit unions are the real deal, especially Tapco. If this was your Institutional bank i could guarantee that they would never have bothered to contact me wanting to resolve the issues. I

I have 4 different bank accounts for different things. From Bank of America to USAA and Navy Federal. This Credit Union sets the standard for customer service, friendly staff, great rates and relationship building!
I am not sure what more they could do to be any better!?! Literally the friendliest staff, always remember my name, always smiling and quick to help, they don't like people having to wait.
