InsideOut Yoga offers classes for all levels and abilities. We practice in the circular, light-filled sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock (UUFR) which has a wooded backdrop. When the weather is nice, we practice on the waterfront stage of YMCA/APYC Camp Kekoka with views out to the Chesapeake Bay.
In each class, you'll receive individual attention in a group setting with articulate instruction that challenges your body and nurtures your spirit. Maybe you've wanted to try yoga but are uncomfortable in a group setting, or maybe you feel you've reached a plateau in your personal practice and would like to tap into a deeper awareness of alignment to take you to the next level.

Since she founded InsideOut Yoga in 2010, Susan "has gained a reputation not only for teaching yoga to people of all ages, but for giving people the tools to change their lives" (Local Scoop Magazine). She's been practicing yoga since 1999 and completed a 200 hr teacher training program in 2008 at Yoga Source in Richmond, VA, under the directorship of Ashtanga and Iyengar instructors, Jennifer Elliot and Sandra Pleasants.
Our destination is The Sanctuary at Two Rivers, a paradise-on-earth located at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula's Blue Zone. This off-the-grid, sustainably-built 40-acre property consists of lush Jurassic forest, exotic fruit orchards, hiking trails, manicured tropical gardens, epic waterfalls and indigenous wildlife.
An hour or two of focused attention can have a significant, even life-changing, impact on your regular yoga practice. These workshops, led by Susan Johnson, E-RYT 200, YACEP, and Ginger Houck, PT, will focus on optimal alignment for your own unique body in order to keep your practice fun, safe and sustainable for years to come.
This class is a slower paced, alignment-based vinyasa practice which includes core work, modified, classic and creative sun salutations as well as basic standing, seated, supine and balance postures. A good class for beginners as well as continuing students who prefer a slower paced flow class. Vinyasa Flow is a strong athletic practice that links breath and movement while building heat, endurance, strength, flexibility, balance and mental focus.

Susan offers a variety of classes that suit yogis of all levels and stages in life. She is able to mix fun with structure and provide a safe place for spiritual and physical growth of the practice of yoga. Her international and in-state yoga retreats take it to another level with a different themed workshop for each retreat.

InsideOut Yoga is a gift to those who are fortunate to live in or visit the norther neck and middle peninsula of VA. Susan teaches to all levels of experience ensuring everyone can participate in one of her classes. While flow is her speciality, her classes for strength and flexibility, and myofascial release are inclusive for all abilities. And not to be missed are the amazing retreats she co-leads with MJ Anderson. OBX, Peru, Shenandoah, VA, these retreats are thoughtfully developed and led in a safe, nurturing manner that brings the participants together to play, learn and grow. Once you attend

After decades of practicing yoga in all parts of the country, I was thrilled to find such a gifted teacher in the small town of White Stone. Susan’s style of yoga is the perfect blend of athleticism and mindfulness. She makes everyone feel welcome, no matter their level of practice. She has cultivated a community of fun-loving yogis from around the region. Now I’m totally hooked on her travel retreats in fun locations too!

InsideOut Yoga is the best. Susan has a way of making even beginners feel empowered to try new moves and challenge themselves. She is not afraid to help gently move you into a correct pose. And folks who go to her studio are raving fans. During the pandemic, I have enjoyed her YouTube classes which she generously creates for those who cannot be there in person. And, the annual Kekoka Yoga Retreat which she leads (usually held in May) is a blast and full of opportunities to connect with others who practice yoga (at all levels) and learn new moves....all in a lovely country setting at a YMCA camp

Susan Johnson is an incredible instructor! Her cues for alignment, variety of class offerings, welcoming and friendly nature, and her obvious preparation ahead of time all combine to make yoga at Inside Out in White Stone one of my favorite places to be. Whether for group or private sessions I always feel that the experience is challenging, nurturing and meets my (and everyone’s) individual needs.

We have been students and fans of Susan J for several years now. She introduced us to yoga about the time we turned 60. We want to maintain mobility, strength, and balance. At Inside Out, yoga never gets “old” because Susan puts a lot of variety in her sessions. From week to week we focus on different parts of the body and emphasize different styles of yoga. Some classes are very energetic, others more yin. The UU church offers us a light filled space in which to practice. The mimosa trees, butterfly bushes and other flora attracts a myriad of butterflies and birds that flutter about just beyond

I’ve known Susan as a friend and teacher for many years. I was with her during her yoga teacher training journey and was often one of the people she first practiced on. She has a gift for teaching and explaining and ALWAYS bringing something new to her classes. Her passion for yoga and how the human body moves is evident in all her classes. And Susan seems just as happy to teach newbies as she is to teach experiences yogis. I highly recommend experiencing InsideOut Yoga if you haven’t already!! I would also encourage you to check out all the cool stuff (like yummy recipes) on her website!

I skeptically attended a yoga class about 7 years ago with Susan. As a working mom I had limited time and didn’t know if yoga would give me the exercise I really needed. Susan’s class was the perfect combination of physical challenges, sweating and mindfulness (which I didn’t realize I needed until I experienced it). I have since taken yoga of all kinds all over the US and have even become a certified teacher myself. But in all sincerity Susan bring something special to class that there is no substitute for. I’d encourage anyone and everyone to give InsideOutYoga a try!

Susan's yoga classes are awesome. She tailors every class to the participant's needs, and assured that participants are doing the poses correctly. Great for beginners as well as experienced yogis.
My husband and I both enjoy and have benefitted from classes at InsideOut Yoga, and highly recommend it!

I first came to Inside Out Yoga to practice 108 Sun Salutations on the evening of the Winter Solstice in 2008. It was the first time I had ever done that and the event was special and meaningful because of all the thoughtful touches Susan adds to everything she does. I had been attending a different yoga class with a different instructor and was looking for a more strenuous option. Susan’s Power Flow class that I eventually attended was exactly what I needed. She is fun but focused, challenging but careful, and always mindful. We live in a small community and to have a talented and creative yoga

It's challenging to find a good yoga teacher in an urban area and even more so in a rural area, like the Northern Neck of Virginia. As a yoga practitioner, yoga teacher and physical therapist, I have become very particular --- so you can imagine my enthusiasm after finding a GREAT yoga teacher in the remote town of White Stone! With help from the stunning setting of a quaint modern church tucked back into the woods, Susan Johnson's classes feel safe, encouraging and supportive. Drawing from many years of experience in different styles of yoga, her timing and cuing are spot on. I like
