Your child's first experiences with the dentist should be as comfortable and relaxed as possible to establish a lifetime of positive associations. We'd like to tell you a little more about how we accomplish that at Lower Merion Pediatric Dentistry. Pediatric dentists have two additional years of training to specialize in the unique treatment needs of children.
Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his or her first birthday. You can make visits to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Once your young child becomes verbal, discuss the upcoming visit, telling him or her that the dentist and their staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions.
We are excited to announce that we are now participating as an in-network provider with Delta Dental and United Concordia (Elite Plus ONLY.) We also gladly accept most other types of insurance as partial payment. We submit claims on your behalf, and after we receive payment from your insurance company, we will send you a bill for the difference.

The pediatric dentist has an extra two to three years of specialized training after dental school, and is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years.
If the procedure was in the lower jaw, then the tongue, teeth, lip and surrounding tissue will be numb or asleep. If the procedure was in the upper jaw, then the teeth, lip and surrounding tissue will be numb or asleep. Often, children do not understand the effects of local anesthesia, and may chew, scratch, suck, or play with the numb area.

We love this practice. My 4 year old gets very excited to go to the dentist and I attribute that to how kind, calming, and friendly Dr. Horchos and his staff are. He’s clearly an expert in knowing how to put kids at ease - having silly names for his dental instruments, fun decor around the office, and finding ways to make everything fun and special. Couldn’t recommend this practice more!

Dr. John and the entire team at lower merion pediatric dentistry do an amazing job with all of our kids dental needs and we have been patients for many years and would highly recommend. They provide a friendly experience for all of their patients (and parents) and the team is also does a great job with children with special needs too.

Very clean, always on time and Dr. Horchos always takes the time to meet with me and summarize the visit and discuss any issues. He does not rush me out! He is very personable and going there feels like family. It is not a different dentist each time. We love consistency. My kids love him and his practice!

My kids love Doctor John! He is incredibly caring and goes the extra mile to make kids feel comfortable. Dr. John explains what he is doing in kid friendly terms, talks gently to the kids while doing procedures and uses kind words of encouragement throughout. At the end of every visit there are prizes and bubbles. If there are issues to discuss he speaks to parents separately. As a former elementary school

Today was my 19 month olds first dentist appointment. There were tears & my little one was not happy but Dr. Horchos was so good with her and answered all the questions of a nervous mom. Dr. Horchos and staff were wonderful! I highly recommend Lower Merion Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry for anyone with little ones looking for a dentist!
