Membrane filtration plants can be designed using a variety of membrane configurations, each with unique characteristics to suit a wide range of process requirements. This compact membrane format can be operated at high pressures, and with suitable spacer materials, can accept high-viscosity feeds. Intended for high solids or large suspended solids, tubular membranes can have internal diameters (ID) ranging from to inch (6.35 - 12.7 mm).
In the food and beverage industry, Membrane Specialists products and technologies improve clarification and concentration and preserve color so that producers of fruit juices, vegetable juices and wine can offer higher value products while maximizing usable yields.
Crossflow membrane filtration is a mature technology, regularly employed as a standard technique for liquid processing to effect clarification, product isolation, by-product recovery, concentration and separation in a large number of food and beverage industries.

With years of experience in the pulp and paper industry, Membrane Specialists offers a full range of membrane filtration technologies that allow producers to more efficiently remove by-products and waste from both their products and effluent. We can engineer and build complete systems for traditional uses, such as water recycling and recovery of valuable by-products, as well as some new uses including the production of cellulosic ethanol.
The increasing cost of corn is driving ethanol producers to find alternate feedstocks, including cellulose. Membrane Specialists' extensive background in the pulp and paper industry has given us considerable experience with the multiple separation and concentration steps required to extract cellulose from biomass, convert it to sugars and eventually to ethanol.
