Building on property in the country requires more advance planing than building in town. More decisions need to be made and it's difficult to know where to start. If you have never built before, the construction process can seem complicated. The following list contains information that may help. For most people, building a home is a new experience, and therefore it's good to cover the basics.
If you have done construction projects before, you may know what to expect and be prepared for some amount of inconvenience. With advance planning, coordination of subcontactors and accurate scheduling, we can minimize the uncertainty that can accompany home construction.

Based on our experience (over many years and many types of new home construction, remodels and home additions), we have found certain strategies that work to keep the job as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. The following list may not apply to every job, but they are suggestions you might consider.
Building in a coastal environment requires different materials and installations than building in a dry climate. The weather here can be brutal on building exteriors. The combination of rain and high wind can force water to go up the side of the building and enter through small openings, causing moisture problems later.
I've been a contractor for almost forty years and have seen a lot of construction problems caused by water intrusion into buildings, but I was shocked by the amount of damage that water caused to this house in Bandon. We were hired to repair this house, which was about seven years old. The interior had moisture stains on the walls and areas where water had pooled on the hardwood floors, causing them to buckle.
Building projects can add value to your property, repair problems or make your home more enjoyable. But you need to be prepared for the things a building project can not do. We are not capable of perfection and can only promise you: quality materials, competent employees, experienced sub-contractors, accurate scheduling and responsible business practices.
