We didn't want a box. The architectural part was very important to us. We put our money into the quality of design. We see that money spent shows up in the details. We have a neighbor who got a much larger addition from another company for less than we spent on ours. But it doesn't have those special touches - and they didn't get any help with selecting finishes and fixtures and colors.
You can complete a successful home remodeling project by partnering with either an architectural design firm or a design build firm. But because the two methods differ in ways that may be important to you, it may help to gain a better understanding of design build before you decide which method is the one for you.
One of the most common questions people have during their preliminary research is about cost. Gilday did a spectacular job of designing and renovating my kitchen. They transformed a dark, cramped, dysfunctional space into a beautiful, bright, well-designed room that is a joy to work and dine in. Everyone with whom I dealt at Gilday was professional, competent and pleasant. The designers had creative solutions to knotty problems that none of the other contractors and designers I consulted were able to deal with satisfactorily. Over the past 11 years, we've used Gilday for two major projects -- refinishing our basement and renovating our hall bath -- as well as for numerous smaller projects. Most memorably, Gilday repaired the damage when our 70-year-old living room ceiling suddenly and inexplicably collapsed on Christmas morning, earning my eternal gratitude when one of their employees came over that morning to secure the room.
Gilday's work is meticulous, and they stand by it long after it's done.

My husband and I are so happy with Gilday Renovations and their entire team. The project has exceeded our expectations on all aspects from architectural drawings to the addition itself. We have had top notch customer service from everyone. Jon Patterson arrives every morning before 6:00am with drawings in hand and the whole team works hard every day. I highly recommend Gilday Renovations. Kevin Gilday and team gave me the kitchen of my dreams. I waited years to start this project, interviewing multiple design firms. We hired Gilday to do a fairly large renovation of our home in AU park/DC. This involved the addition of a master suite, family room and basement as well as removing an old side porch to become an office space. From the attention to our existing landscaping and preservation, to making our indoor space liveable while all of this was going on.....I can't say enough.
