Mossy Creek Dojo
Aikido class is starting as a reliable automatic self defense in a safe training environment. We have started back a single class on Thursday. Mossy Creek Dojo is fortunate to have several qualified and respected instructors in the various arts we study. Dr. John Kirby John Kirby started martial arts training in 1990 in Kodokan Judo, Tomiki Ryu.

We would welcome the opportunity to share our knowledge of the martial arts with you. Since our material involves study of potentially life and death ideas, we reserve the right to apply selective standards. We are doing this for two reasons. First, this will help cover the overhead costs of running the dojo.
Services
A dojo is the place where you train. It may be a special martial arts facility, a gym, or a dirt field. What is important about this place is that it has been set aside for training. You must remember that you have come to the dojo to learn; therefore, you will be expected to adhere to a set of established rules.
The following six points are adapted from a set of guidelines defined by the founder of Aikido, Morihei Uyeshiba. They are intended to promote safe, enjoyable, and respectful practice and they are valid in any style. Keep these reminders in the forefront of your mind and you can't go too far wrong.
In traditional martial arts there are times when it is proper to bow to an instructor, another student, or even a place. There are several reasons for this practice. First, bowing shows respect and courtesy for the person you are bowing to. If you are a student bowing to a higher rank, it shows that you recognize that person as someone who has something worthwhile to teach you.
As you increase in skill you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of various forms and techniques. In recognition of these capabilities, you will be awarded a different color belt (obi) that signifies your skill level. Before you are allowed to demonstrate your techniques, you must satisfy three requirements.
We do have frequent weekend workouts, usually Sundays starting about 2 pm. Weekend classes are less structured and the subject matter usually depends on who attends class. We tend to do more drills and randori on the weekends with less formal teaching. While anyone who is a member of the dojo may attend weekend classes, we prefer people to know how to fall if they plan to attend (this is usually about yellow belt level).

It is a great dojo for both experienced grapplers and rank amateurs with no experience. My wife just took her first class tonight and can't wait to come back. I can recommend Mossy Creek Dojo without hesitation. The instructors are superb martial artists with a talent for teaching.

I know several Mossy Creek players and they are all very classy. At tournaments they are always helpful with coaching and tips. If I lived in the area there is no doubt I would attend their classes. They are not just good judo players, they are good people.
