He specializes in preventive medicine such as physical examination, vaccination and also deals with acute and chronic medical conditions such as respiratory infection, allergic rhinitis, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, weight management and more.

I've never been kept in the waiting room more than 5 minutes, his staff is courteous and efficient, and Dr. Shum is the best. He's the first doctor I've had who really listens and takes my concerns seriously. He really makes patients feel like a priority and he gets test results to me and prescriptions sent to my pharmacy asap. Such a nice man!

Dr Shum has been our family physician since I've moved to Manhattan . He is incredibly reliable and knowledgeable. I also appreciate when you make an appointment the wait time is great unlike other offices that keep you there for hours. Dr Shum is personable and easy to talk and explains things in a way you can understand. I highly recommend him to my family and friends.

I'm updating my review of the good doctor because he moved offices and now is at 210 E 47th street (pretty much half a block away from his old office), AND!!!!! the offices are so much better. You can actually check in, wait for the doc, etc., and not be in anyone's way. His staff is kind of meh,
And the doc continues to be pretty good. Always a quick email away, no long waits in the waiting room (the average wait time for me has been, tops, 10 minutes.) Looking at the down side though - he's a little too quick with the antibiotics and prednisone, so you kind of have to keep

I can't say enough wonderful things ab Dr.Shum!! He is incredibly patient and genuinely takes his time to listen to your concerns, even if they are minor. He is efficient and effective in his diagnosis with a lovely bedside manner. He has always been accessible to me, even via email... I write him the second I feel something is off w my health and he responds quickly with a recommendation or referral. I'm so glad I found him amongst all the NYC doctors. He is truly the best.

Great doctor! Wise, caring, thoughtful and smart (med school at Johns Hopkins; residency at Columbia Presbyterian). *Super* responsive -- I've emailed him on several occasions, including on weekends, and the response has always been prompt. Generally very punctual in relation to scheduled appointments. Excellent bedside manner and demeanor.

I've been going to see Dr. Shum the past few years, and he's always fixed me up and provided the right referrals when I needed to see a specialist. He is readily accessible and it is easy to set up an appointment, and he is very responsive. Dr. Shum is very knowledgeable and considerate, he is very efficient and I would recommend him to my friends and co-workers. He's not a chatty person, but is very professional when it comes to diagnosing your illness.

Maybe okay on medical judgments, but ethically questionable and definitely has poor staff management skills.
I saw this doctor for a few years and had to stop after an incident involving one of his assistants (hopefully was a temporary one). While the doctor was away for vacation, she refused to help me check on an insurance approval and was extremely rude and irresponsible in handling the matter. When I made a complaint to the doctor, to cover her own fault, she lied blatantly and even made defamatory accusations to my character. Without any further investigation and without verifying any facts

Dr. Shum is an excellent doctor and his office staff is very friendly. His office is clean and was not packed with patients when I went. I was seen before my scheduled appointment due to arriving early. Dr. Shum was very professional and made me feel comfortable during my entire visit. My husband is also a patient of his. I highly recommend Dr. Shum as an internal medicine doctor and PCP. Thank you Dr. Shum!

Dr Chi Shum is a true professional. He is effective and efficient. He also has colleagues that are great too. I have emailed Dr Shum on a Saturday and he responded to me within a few hours. I have never known of any Dr that does that. Many Dr use a answering service. I no longer live in Ny but I continue to see Dr Shum because he cares about his patients. I will also recommend him to anyone who needs a professional Dr.

My previous primary care physician had moved to Floridal so I needed to find someone else. My dermatologist recommended Dr. Shum. I've been going to him about 3 years. He is the calmest person I've ever met. He is thorough, non-judgmental and always listens. I will always go to him as long as I am in New York.

Dr. Shum has all the qualities I search for in a doctor: He is a great listener, and has a wonderful bedside manner. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and he always makes me feel comfortable and at ease - never rushed. His positive demeanor and jolly sense of humor make visiting him all the more enjoyable. I highly recommend Dr. Shum! Definitely a 5 star doctor!

I have been a patient of Dr. Shum for several years now. I can honestly say he is the best doctor I have ever been to, except maybe for my pediatrician. Dr. Shum is highly knowledgeable and caring! He makes me feel like a person and not just another chart. I have recommended him to several other people and they all love him.
I did not give him the full five stars because I feel like the office is small and cramped.
With that said I will be his patient forever.

So i was referred to Dr Luachango but made an appointment to see Dr. Shum based on all the reviews. I arrive 15 minutes before my schedule time for which I had to call the office to reconfirm since no one called me, only to be greeted by "they're not here" I stated "my appointment is for 8" the response I got was "well they're not here. You can call them at 9-9:30." Seriously?!! I have a scheduled appointment. This young man tells me I don't work for Dr Shum but for Dr Lauchango. Here's his card you can call at 9-9:30. I drove 45 minutes to get

While Dr. Shum seemed like a well-informed doctor with a pleasant demeanor, there are far too many options in New York City to settle for less. To start, his office consists of a series of rooms and hallways from a converted apartment. Everything is cramped and it's the most rundown doctor's office I've ever been to. My appointment with Dr. Shum was one of the quickest doctor's visits I had ever been to. This reflects poorly on a doctor who was seeing me for the first time ever and had no idea about my health.

Dr Shum is always friendly and attentive. Even when he is fully booked, he has made time for me as a walk in. His attitude, communications ability and general patience are all excellent, and I feel comfortable getting his advice on anything.
His support staff are excellent, friendly and professional. Dr Shum always helps me with even the most minor of concern or issue, and will even send me more information on requested topics via email.
I have recommended him to friends and colleagues, all of whom have had the same positive experience.
