Dr. Douglas Tack is our Medical Director and Chief of Staff. He graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988, at which time he moved from the family farm in Michigan to New York. He spent many years focusing on Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, where he developed his special interests in Internal Medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, and Avian/Exotic Medicine.

My one and only ♥ vet is dr Hewitt she is new there but I have seen her for 15 years at another place. She is amazing person ❤ she has taken care of all of my dogs and all of my fosters as well. She has gone above and beyond for my fur babies. And the new veterinary hospital is clean every one was very nice and very pleasant. And the tech was so very sweet and gently with my dog. A+

Waiting inside to be seen by the vet for over an hour. During this time a guy who looked like a janitor/kennel cleaner came out from the back, wearing plastic gloves and looking annoyed as he swung a cat carrier next to him carelessly. The way he was swinging it made me think there couldn't possibly be an animal inside. He went off to the left and plopped the carrier onto the floor in a hallway area, letting it fall the remaining 6 inches from his hand to the floor. The carrier sat there for about 20 minutes until he came back out from the back and grabbed it again. As he carried it roughly through

They're keeping everyone masks and picking up the animals at your car in the parking lot and then returning them to you. Person who comes out listens to what you have to say and take the time to find out why you're there and what your pet needs. I felt very comfortable trusting my pet to their care.

My 14 year old dog had been suffering from vomiting and diarrhea for two days. Several vets did not have time to see us and the emergency hospital I have used before is a last resort. Black River understood and welcomed us into their busy schedule. Everyone was kind and friendly, and the facility is beautiful. Dr. Vex was very thorough in her explanations and gave us a comprehensive treatment plan, as we did not know what was causing the issue. Within 24 hours, my dog was feeling much better and acting like her normal self. I can't say thank you enough to the Black River team for helping a dog

Our pet Mel has been attended by Black River Veterinary Hospital since we moved to the USA from Brazil. Dr Suzanne and the entire staff are outstanding. Our long-time vet (Dr. Michelle Hewitt) moved to Black River Vet. Our experience with her has always been positive. She is a very caring and smart vet who listens to her patients' guardians and recommends balanced solutions to her patients' conditions.
Our experience with her was enhanced by the professionalism of staff at her new location. Signage outside the new location was clear and let us know what we needed to do in terms of COVID precautions. They even have a no contact payment system! Although Black River is much further from our home than Dr. Hewitt's previous offices, we will be happy
