Malanga Cafe
Throw a rock in Miami and, chances are, you'll hit a Cuban restaurant. But if you want to indulge in the kind of quality traditional Cuban cuisine that Mami used to make, head on over to Malanga Cuban Cafe in Pinecrest for this great half-off deal! Malanga Cuban Cafe is the place to enjoy Cuban comfort food in a restaurant named after the most comforting of all Cuban foods!

Got a stomach ache? Eat some mashed malanga -- it will cure all that ails you! Just ask any Cuban mother. Not only can you enjoy the namesake tuber in a variety of dishes, but you can also feast on the best -- and biggest -- pan con lechon (Cuban pulled pork sandwich) in Pinecrest!
Services
A hairy, brown tuber may seem an unlikely namesake for a restaurant, but it made sense to Melissa and Tony Vias, who intend their 8-month-old Malanga Cafe to satisfy Old Cuba yearnings. You don't have to be Cuban to enjoy this charmer, but you may need to check your Cubanics app to decipher the expressions painted on one wall.

The waiter is extremely rude. He kicked us out claiming it was closed at 9.30pm when they publish it is open until 11pm. He said this is the hours before the pandemic. Hellooo, it is 2022, the pandemic started 2 years and it takes 2 minutes to update your hours in Google. Never again.

Sub standard Cuban Food. Bought the lentil soup (which was not cheap) it was more water than lentils. Literally. Everything else was Ok. For the prices they charge, I thought it would be much better. Ehh. Not going back.

If I could give zero stars I would, they're blessed to get 1 from me. To start off, what restaurant closes their kitchen at 7:30? JOKE. Secondly, I placed an order through ubereats around 7:15pm and was told my order would be ready for pick up at 7:43. I arrive at 7:43 only to receive a message that my order was cancelled at 7:42...needless to say I was livid but I was already there so I walked in to find out what happened with my order (mainly in high hopes it was an error with the system). Get ready for this - A CUBAN RESTAURANT DIDNT HAVE WHITE RICE - are you kidding me? White rice is a

Malanga Cuban Cafe has been open for 11 years in their current location in Suniland (Pinecrest area). There is small parking space, but the restaurant itself is small. Cute, but small. The atmosphere and history on the wall is great. Probably has 7-8 tables. We had great servers and people starting trickling in once we ordered. The food was good. I had their World Famous Pan con Lechon, but it was nothing spectacular (in my opinion).

Was really excited about going thinking it was going to be great. The ambiance and decor was very welcoming and homey, the food was what surprised me even though not it wasn’t bad but nothing to drool. My cousin asked for a Crema de Malanga, they had none 😳, with a name like Malanga 🤔 we thought we would enjoy it, then she wanted the breaded chicken steak with white rice and French fries instead of maduros then the waiter very kindly told us that side dishes can’t be substituted. The prices are kind of high so saying that we could’ve gone to Sergio’s drink a Mojito and eat whatever

Good food, i think fairly authentic. I order fried pork, white rice, sweet plantains and tres leches. The dining room is nice with lots of memorabilia about Cuba. The food was tasty and plentiful. Service was good but the server wasn't quite as attentive as I would have liked. The tres leches was very coconutty which was a nice surprise. I would come back when I'm in town.

A soup to upset grandmothers everywhere. For $12, there should be chunks of chicken in my soup....even a $7 soup from Pollo Tropical has actual pieces of chicken in it. But not here at Malanga; another Miami Cuban's commitment to mediocrity and 1 time customers.

You want to piss off your mother in law? Want to hear your spouse's aunt complain about the kind of soup she can make with $12? Take them to Malanga. Clearly the owners of this place wake up every day and chug an "idgaf milkshake" because this soup was a joke. To be fair, it did taste good but if I wanted a carrot

If I can give it zero stars I would! Besides the chicken tasting like rubber and the rice halfway cooked the amount of money for the plate is incredible and apart from that when They forgot one of my meals charged me I went back and the owner could not even speak with me she had her front ladies tell me that there's nothing that she could do for me she cannot speak to me that she's very busy to figure it out! Never again not worth not one freaking penny and the customer service with it is even horrible! Super unprofessional go to Pinecrest Bakery instead!

Amazing, simply amazing. I had the Cuban nachos. I’m a nachos lover so when I ordered them I thought it might be a shame to come to a Cuban restaurant and order such a standard dish. It turned out to be uniquely Cuban and some of the best nachos I have ever had. It’s not just a plate of cheese with chips. Don’t get me wrong I love a plate of cheese and chips every so often, if they are done right. This was next level, nothing common about it. For one, there were no chips. Instead the toppings came on large flattened plantains that were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of doneness

I just tried to give this place a second change. I went 8 years ago and was underwhelmed. It's the same. It's a shame, the decor is really cute. I think it would be great for large parties, since you could basically take over the whole space, but the food quality just isn't there for the price.

Had dinner a few years ago at Malanga and went back last night. We were a little disappointed with the food and service this time. Felt a little rushed and the food a little overcooked.

I had friends from out of town want to have Cuban food so I took them to Malanga Cuban Cafe. My friends had a couple of pork dishes that they liked very much but I ordered the Marinated Cuban Pork Chunks and the pork was dry and inedible. I realize sometimes that things do not go right in a kitchen so I told the server and she said that it did look dry. I then requested that this entree be taken off the bill because I was not going to eat it and she said she would have to ask the cook/manager if she could take it off the bill.

When the server came back to the table she said the best that she

The family and I had dinner here. The service was great. However the food was not. My crema de malanga was extremely salty. My daughter's croqueta preparada sandwich was cold, the cheese hard. The only good thing was the ropa vieja. Even the platanitos were old and hard. But the worst part is on my way out I saw the owners dog running around in the kitchen.
Apparently they don't care about being sanitary.

I don't see this place open much longer. Staff is rude and the food is worse. 25 minutes before we get our drinks and when we did there was one ice cube in each cup. We asked for more ice and she said the ice machine was broken but magically came back with the cups filled with ice. Food came out before Soups and appetizers. The food was cold , stale, and bland. You can tell this was food was put in the microwave and served . None of it was fresh. I came home to an upset stomach. Do yourself a favor and go hit up la Carreta.

Fun place in South Miami. It's a small little restaurant that felt intimate. They made us feel like family and told us all their favorite dishes and what they love to add to them. They are very hard workers. Out food was delicious and I recommend the nachos.

Oh man I've been here a couple of times and I've really tried to like it but I just cant. Food is over priced for the quality. The rice is always hard and the sauce in the ropa vieja is literally plain tomato sauce, gross. Fried plantains were burnt and old. They were so hard it was almost impossible to eat. It's a nice environment, I really do hope they can fix the quality of the food.

I had high hopes for this place but was not thrilled in any way by the time I left. I went in for lunch and there was only one other table besides mine and my guest. I liked the decor but the loud Christmas music was annoying.
The gentleman who took our order was extremely friendly and looked like he may also be working in the kitchen based on the fact that he was wearing a white, but clean, kitchen apron.
Since they were "Famous" for their pork sandwich, we decided to try something else and see if was just a great Cuban restaurant. I ordered the Pan con Bistec, which was a huge disappointment

Located in the Pinecrest area right on US1, this tiny Cuban restaurant was fantastic. I can tell you I pass in front of it so many times and never stopped in because I always compare any Cuban restaurant to family cooking.

Upon entering the front door will find a hand sanitizing station. This restaurant had 10 tables maximum. One waitress and a helper that was cleaning tables and helping her bring our the food. The service was great and they were both checking in consistently.

We ordered for appetizers the frituras de malanga - they were crispy outside and moist inside. They pate came with

I stopped by for a quick dinner this past Sunday while in the area. I figured Cuban food can be adapted to healthy eating so why not!

Malanga is located in a strip shopping center right off US1, and with a decent amount of parking. Though their patio faces US1 - it wasn't open due to rain - their dining room entrance is off to the side of the parking lot. The business is taking "that which shall not be named" seriously, with hand sanitizers both at the entrance and at each table, as well as the staff being masked.

The menu is pretty varied between Spanish, Cuban as well as some

Delicious Cuban food. Reasonable priced. Good for children. Tvs on the walls for the sports fans.

Now here's the problem, we had a visa gift card for $50 and they said that they do not accept it. Their excuse was that their machine does not accept the gift cards however they accept other Visa cards. This is beyond ridiculous and it out a shadow on our whole experience. This is extremely disappointing and uncalled for. I plan to let all of the review sources know.
