Valley of the Moon Veterinary Hospital was established in 2012 by three experienced professionals with one shared vision: to provide quality, compassionate care to Sonoma's dog and cat companion animals, all the while working alongside you, their guardians, to create wellness and treatment plans which respect your special bond as well as your budget.

We want caring for your pets to be a truly collaborative effort. We recognize that no one understands your pet better than you. That's why each staff member and each doctor is committed to providing you with all the information and options you need to make informed medical decisions.

Dr. Schwab is a 1996 graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, MA. She returned to California in 1997 and has practiced in Sonoma since 2000. In 2008 she completed a Fellowship at UC Davis in small animal ultrasonography and in 2010 became certified in veterinary acupuncture.
Katie joined our team in 2016 and is pursuing her veterinary technician license at Santa Rosa Junior College. She currently resides with her husband Tanner and cats Hazel and Arya. When she's not busy spending time with her family and friends, Katie enjoys visiting beer gardens with her husband, playing her guitar and watching her cats at their hijinks.
Helping you keep your best friend happy and healthy from the day you bring him home until the day you have to say goodbye is our ongoing mission and greatest privilege at Valley of the Moon Veterinary Hospital. With that in mind, we recommend a full physical exam twice a year so that together we can tailor a wellness plan, based on your pet's lifestyle, which ensures he's getting everything he needs to stay healthy.
Surgical services at Valley of the Moon Veterinary include spaying, neutering, exploratory and soft tissue surgery as well as many orthopedic procedures. These surgeries, in addition to proper dental cleanings and oral surgery, require general anesthesia.

At Valley of the Moon we make every effort and take every precaution to ensure anesthesia is delivered safely and that your pet experiences minimal pain or discomfort during and after any procedure.Protocols we use have been developed by the American Animal Hospital Association, an organization of veterinary professionals credited with setting the standards which ensure that the highest level of care is being provided.
Dental cleanings, tooth extractions and minor oral surgeries are among the most commonly performed procedures in our clinic. Not surprising, since it is estimated over 85% of dogs and cats over four years of age have some degree of dental disease. We know that tarter and calculus form continuously on unbrushed teeth, allowing bacteria to cause inflammation of the gums and breakdown of the periodontal ligament.
