At Napa Valley Veterinary Hospital, providing compassionate, quality care to dogs and cats in the Napa Valley and surrounding areas has been our hallmark for more than 40 years. Getting to know each patient and the unique bond they share with their owner is just as important as recommending state-of-the-art diagnostics, modern medicine and current surgical techniques.
Because we know your pet is family, we treat them as our family. We provide complete pet health care from preventative exams to emergency services, surgery, hospitalization and boarding. Your pet should be professionally examined on a yearly basis. Organ systems are assessed and, in addition to vital statistics, recorded in your pet's medical record.

Services
It is our philosophy to recommend what is best and appropriate for your pet's health. Also, we take the time to explain the "why" our recommendation will help each owner. Thus, you will better understand, and we can work towards our common goal of keeping your pet healthy! Dr. Northrup was born in Southern California, lived 9 years in Ohio, and started his college career at The Ohio State University.
We've moved from our long-time, north Napa veterinary hospital location to new quarters just off Imola Avenue in the River Park Shopping Center. We'd love to show you our new, state-of-the-art, light-filled pet hospital home, complete with private exam rooms, patient boarding area, diagnostics facilities and equipment, nutrition products and more.
Our emergency care services are limited to regular office hours only to our regular clients. For all other hours of the day, and for non-clients, we recommend seeking out one of the nearby emergency clinics, which are specifically setup to handle walk-in emergencies. We strongly recommend annual preventative care exams to test for heartworm and other health conditions which may require treatment, depending upon your pet's life stage.
Our pet preventative health care and vaccinations programs are the cornerstone of our services. First, it is important that your pet be professionally examined on a yearly basis. During examination, organ systems are assessed and, in addition to vital statistics, recorded in your pet's medical record.
Pet dental care most commonly addresses periodontal disease. It is one of the most common ailments to affect dog and cat health care. But the outward signs are not always obvious until the condition has progressed to a point warranting more extensive treatment. In addition to its negative oral consequences, unchecked periodontal disease has been linked to other organ pathology, including the liver, lungs, kidneys and heart.

I read these reviews and could not wait to meet Dr. Jeff. He was very personable and knowledgeable. However ZERO follow through. I needed to know about a diet change and get a form signed. It took a WEEK with my calling everyday. I was promised time and time again I would hear back. It took me saying I would drive down and wait for the form to get the form finally mailed to me hours later. I have 3 beautiful goldens. How would I ever get the necessary care if these simple routine matters were not dealt with? At times the staff was snarky with me instead of bending over backwards to help me out

Dr Northrup is amazing and personable. This is the type of care that is well beyond the standard of what most pet owners expect and have experienced. I only wish my healthcare was this good! A thousand thank you’s to Dr Northrup and staff!!!

Dr. Jeff and his staff are amazing! We have been on a bit of a merry - go - round since moving to Napa trying to find a Vet that was the best fit and Dr. Jeff checked all the boxes! He is incredibly thorough, knowledgeable and so friendly. I appreciate him taking his time to talk through all avenues to take with my dog’s torn ACL. He gives his educated advice but ensures you are apart of the process in thinking through what the best option might be. It’s truly one on one exemplary service for my dog and me and even given covid and restrictions he still made a point to come outside and speak

They fit me in to a tight schedule. COVID19 compliant safe protocols were followed (i.e. they picked up my dog from my car window in the adjacent parking lot and returned her to the same). My dog's happy and so am I for receiving caring and good value. Dr. Jeff has a terrific staff. Two thumbs (and paws) up!

Dr Jeff and his entire staff are so professional, knowledgeable, and caring! I've had to contact Dr Jeff multiple times in the middle of the night and he always called me back within minutes to try to help. AND he was patient and not exasperated with me. I honestly could go on and on about how great the staff and Dr Jeff are. They truly care about you and your pets. I love this place and if you know ANYTHING about me, you know I've had some horrific outcomes taking my pets to any vet, so it takes a lot to say I trust my pets with Dr Jeff and his staff.
