A lifelong resident of Frankenmuth, Michigan, Dr. Bierlein graduated with High Distinction from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1984. He completed internships with the VA Hospital and at Grand Forks Air Force Base. While at Ferris he was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and received the Outstanding Clinician Award his Senior year.

These people were the rudest I’ve ever encountered. We didn’t have vision insurance at the time and the way they treated us definitely showed me they were looking down on us. (Assisting the person who came in after us first, not bothering to answer my questions, simply pointing to a section of frames I could “afford” and leaving to assist someone else with picking theirs out while ignoring us, etc.) I’ve never experienced that kind of treatment before and it was not pleasant. Had we not already finished the exam I would have left and never went back. It bothers me so much it makes me
