Mermaid Winery has two locations on the Southside of Hampton Roads: Our flagship store is located in the charming neighborhood Ghent. Our second location is located in the Chix's Beach area on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. The mermaid is a mythical source of beauty that represents our vision to produce stunning wines.

Mermaid Winery has three rooms available for seated dinner parties or cocktail receptions. From 15 to 299 guests, the full patio, tasting room or the entire winery is available for rental. Wonderful experience every time we go! We are wine club members, and the wine selection is excellent and pairs so well with the exquisitely prepared menu. BIG Bonus are the safe, gluten-free options and pet-friendly environment. The cheese and charcuterie board is the BEST on the East coast! So many choices are provided to mix The outdoor seating is extremely comfortable, as is the inside and decor adds to the ambiance. The staff has all been pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable and detailed to your needs.

If your looking for the mussels dish with the sausage and spinach that another yelper took a picture of, They no longer have that. I was informed that the Virginia Beach location still carries that dish. Despite not being able to try that mussel dish I was impressed with the charcuterie board and the presentation of My wine flights.

The flatbread was interesting and was heavy on the cheese! Really surprised by the cut of tomatoes. It was warm and well toasted but the bottom got a bit soggy. We tried the old wine flight which came out in a super cool arrangement. Each of the wines was delicious. I was a bit disappointed there weren't more local wines... I had a list of wines I wanted to try, but they seemed to be out of stock! Service was great though!

Review for the event space/event occasion. Came here for a rehearsal dinner. The room is separate from the main winery. Bar tenders were great. Dinner was a little late and we had to ask for more plates but the food made up for it. Buffet style. Chicken pasta, tri-tip in mushroom gravy, roasted potatoes, green beans, Caesar salad. Brownies for dessert. They were supposed to be S'More brownies but there was some issues and they were brownies with cherries on top.

Great atmosphere.. ate their mermaid fries, tuna tacos, and grilled cheese sandwich... all are creative dishes and very tasty. Also tried their peach wine, normally fruit wines add fruit flavor to sweet white wines..however they peach to their chardonnay..it was a less buttery chardonnay with essence of peach, unique and very good.

Overpriced and the food is quite bland. Sent the chicken pasta back because the chicken bread meat was dry and tough. The Byson burger was not juicy at all and was dry as well. The cocktail, wine and apps were delicious. Food Menu selection is very small and limited suggest they stick to wine, coctails and apps. For some odd reason the Norfolk location was so much better than the Virginia Beach location. Our waitress was very nice, understanding, patient and attentive to our needs and requests. Again the VB location sucks the Norfolk (Ghent) location ROCKS.

The wine is ok and the food is excellent, but it takes so long to get your food that you don't get to enjoy it before they rush you out the door because of their 90-minute rule.
We ordered wine flights and appetizers at the beginning and they came out quickly. Then when we ordered dinner, we waited 30 minutes before we had to flag someone down to ask about our food. They said they just put it in and it would take 10 minutes to come out. By the time I got my dinner I didn't have any wine to eat it with. Then as we still had food on our plates and were actively eating

This is a late review, but u went there again a few weeks back for a coworkers farewell. We decided to sit outside as it was a nice day.
I ordered the Brussels sprouts and I was unable to eat them as they were full with flies and mosquitoes.
We got ate up alive and we wished they had something on their tables for the mosquitoes.
The server came out asking me if I wanted to box the Brussels sprouts as they were full and replied no thanks as I was unable to eat them due to the flies.
We then got our entrees and we had to eat them real quick as they mosquitoes party was present.

I enjoyed the Kale salad. The crab cake was ok. I like my roasted brussel sprouts better when I make them at home.
My cousins didn't care too much for the Shrimp and grits or the crabcakes and mashed potatoes. They really enjoyed the wines. They had a variety of wines.

A little overpriced and under-delivered. By all appearances, it fashions itself as a high end, fancy restaurant, with a fairly casual menu. Ok, no problem there. But when asked for a wine list or something that described the wines, the bartender was unable to produce one (not even for their own house made wines!) and one of the servers chimed in with "I think there might be one under the register or something..." although there was none to be found. Keep in mind there are some 800-odd wines here.

I went here to celebrate my birthday this year. The food and wine was absolutely amazing. The reason for the low rating was that even though we made a reservation earlier, upon arrival we were informed that we only had 90 minutes to stay since they were so busy. That really put a damper on the evening. The staff rushed us through the meal and even told us we couldn't do dessert because we had overstayed our welcome...I understand places are busy and want to turn tables however it would have been nice to have been advised when we made our reservations. I will keep this policy in mind for any

I would not recommend the Norfolk location for a large party or event. We visited the Shore Drive location in the past and had a wonderful experience. This was not the case this time. We booked their tasting room for a birthday party and it was a shat show. Now in all fairness to the restaurant I will explain their "policy" and what went wrong. 15 guests is considered a large party ($50 deposit required) and anything more than that is considered a private event ($2000 fee required). We were told this in advance. This visit went as follows:

I've been meaning to post a review here for a while. I simply love it here. This place is what I like to consider for the grown and sexy! I've come here on date night with my fiancé as well as come with coworkers and girlfriends for wine night/happy hour toast, you name it! I am a wine lover & I love to try all the flight choices.

When will i learn? Apparently never. Had a crappy experience here once but did that stop me from trying again? Hahahahahahaha...nope. so, we were looking for a place to have a covid-lunch (outside) but it was a little chilly so not every place's patio is open. This was my first time to visit Mermaid Winery, and I look forward to visiting them again! I love that it is an urban winery set in the heart of Ghent. It has a great vibe, and the waitstaff was super helpful and friendly.
I ordered their wine bar cheese plate as well as a flight of red wine. The flight came in a very nice arrangement, with a card describing each of the wines. Since my girlfriend and I were free of stuff to do on the weekend, I thought that it would be cool to get some wine from Norfolk. Before entering the building, you see a statue of a mermaid, hence the title of the building. So I took a nice snapshot as part of the Yelp Adventure Challenge I was participating in. When you enter, you're greeted by the staff, all wearing masks to comply with COVID guidelines. Sooo Mermaid Winery is nice place to go with friends or on a date. I really enjoyed our wine tasting night out here. Each flight of wine came with a card to keep track of what we were tasting and to remember which ones we liked. The food was delicious but not anything spectacular. We were there for the wine anyway. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

As a suggestion by my server I got the "New World Wine Flight" ($11), which contained the following 5 wines.
1. Vavasour (Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand)
2. Lubanzi (Chenin Blanc, South Africa)
3. Jules Taylor (Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand)
4. Natte Vallej (Cinsault, South Africa)
5. Pedroncelli
