Gables Psychology & Wellness was created with the purpose of meeting the therapeutic needs of our community in a compassionate, caring, and clinically sound manner. As therapists we are often asked why we would choose a profession where we have to listen to people's problems all day. So how exactly do we accomplish that?
Marriage/Relationship counseling is a type of therapy that can serve as an invaluable tool to increase the quality of your relationship with your significant other. Depending upon the needs of the couple several different issues can be addressed. Most couples cite communication issues as a major source of conflict in relationships.
According to the American Psychological Association, an effective parent-child relationship is critical for the child's healthy development. Our goal as a parent is to ensure our children's health and safety while fostering and enhancing their readiness and competency for life as productive and healthy adults.
Being assertive means speaking up for oneself, setting appropriate boundaries and saying "no" when needed. Assertiveness is vital to our self-esteem and overall wellbeing. This training focuses on helping people learn how to communicate their needs effectively and how to set limits appropriately. It often focuses on limiting beliefs which keep us from identifying our needs and appropriately asking for what we need and want.
In co-parenting arrangements, both parents choose to put aside their personal differences to develop and implement a parenting plan that they feel is in the best interest of their child's development. Healthy co-parenting usually requires ongoing communication, troubleshooting, and mutual responsibility, so it can prove challenging to implement following the dissolution of a relationship.
