Services
Solomons Daycare Center, Inc. (SDCC) was established in 1990 to provide an environment for young children to learn and grow. SDCC has grown over the years to include infant/toddler, two-year old, preschool and school-age programs. In 2003 we expanded with the creation of Adventure Point Youth Center, located in Lusby, specifically for school age children.
The first three years of life are a time of tremendous development and growth. Development in one area affects and is influenced by development in all other areas. This is why it is important for teachers to observe and respond to all areas of development. SDCC Minnows class consists of 6 children with a staff ratio of 1:3.
Our Jellyfish are an active and social group. Children are often heard enthusiastically announcing the arrival of teachers, family members, and classmates. These children love attention and imaginative play. SDCC promotes growth and development for this group through story telling, singing and dancing, going on bear hunts, stomping like dinosaurs, and exploring the playground.
Seahorses are naturally inquisitive, active individuals who enjoy learning through hands-on activities. This is the age of investigation and exploration. To capture this group's attention we observe bugs with magnifying glasses, count gold coins, build cities with blocks, sort by color and shape, and cut paper (yes with scissors).
The Starfish class is a group of 20 children age 4-5 year olds with a focus on developing a foundation for school readiness. We provide a variety of developmentally appropriate learning opportunities. Children work independently in learning centers developed to address language, math, science, social studies and the arts.
