NSMA is conveniently located in Morton Grove off of Dempster Street and offers a variety of classes to meet the needs of students and their families. NSMA offers pre-school taekwondo classes, elementary aged taekwondo classes, and adult taekwondo and hapkido martial art classes.
On top of our regular Taekwondo and Hapkido classes, our school opens our doors to friends and offers Nunchuck Summer camp, Gymnastics Summer Camp and Junior Hapkido Summer Camp as well during the summer months ensuring a positive experience for all ages keeping students engaged and active all the while having fun.

TaeKwonDo, an Olympic sport, is a Korean martial art. Important to the art of TaeKwonDo is that these defensive techniques are combined with traditional Korean teaching methods that emphasize discipline, confidence, goal setting/attainment, teamwork, and respect. At NorthShore Martial Arts we strive to nurture the development of each individual student, regardless of age or belt ranking.
Hap Ki Do is a self-defense-based martial arts system, incorporating numerous methods of attack and defense including strikes, joint manipulation, throws, takedowns, and weapons defense. Though rooted in traditional techniques and philosophy, Hap Ki Do has continually modernized as culture has changed over the years.
Our Little Tigers Classes are specially designed for preschool and kindergarten aged children (4 and 5-year-olds). This class will help your children by promoting the development of large and fine muscle groups and increasing overall body coordination abilities through martial arts techniques. The students will develop their balance, hand-eye coordination, physical skills and of course focus, discipline and their ability to follow directions.
These classes concentrate on focus, footwork, necessary kicking and punching skills, self-defense, discipline, and respect. Your child will walk out our doors as a more confident and respectful individual with inherent skills to defend themselves all the while building a stronger body, mind, and spirit.

North Shore Martial Arts has been a great experience for our son. Master Yoon and the other instructors do a great job working with the students. It’s a fun atmosphere but Master Yoon still holds the students accountable for learning the necessary skills.

North Shore Martial Arts and Master Yoon are the best! Master Yoon and his staff are wonderful role models that keep the students engaged and learning at every level. My two children have been attending NSMA for five and three years and my youngest will be attending in the future. They not only learn martial arts but respect and discipline and develop a camaraderie with their classmates. I am extremely happy to be a part of the NSMA community.

This is a wonderful martial arts school. I have had my son here since he was four years old. He loved it from day one, and now that he has a black belt and is able to assist in the peewee classes, he loves it even more. Master Yoon has made a big impact in his life. My son respects him and knows that Master Yoon respects him back. More than that, though, he knows that Master Yoon cares about him as a person. Although he is firm with his students, Master Yoon still has a caring attitude. I highly recommend this school.

My son has been attending North Shore Martial Arts for nearly a year and Master Yoon has been exceptional with his ability, patience, and training in Tae Kwon Do. He is a hands-on instructor and trains with each one of his students. I am looking forward to placing my daughter into North Shore Martial Arts when she turns 4. Highly recommended!!

I signed my daughter up back in August and I couldn't be happier with the level of expertise, professionalism, and care given to my daughter. I was so impressed with Master Yoon's organization, structure of his classes/tests, and his philosophy that I ended up joining the adult class myself. The tuition is priced right and will likely beat neighboring rates. At the end of the day, both my daughter and I are having a great experience learning self-defense skills, (re)discovering our hidden energies and power, but most importantly (re)learning life principles and building new relationships. My son has been doing Tae Kwon Do for almost a year, and we couldn't be happier with the choice. He was a timid child, and Master Yoon helped him become more confident and assertive. The classes are focused, disciplined and entertaining at the same time. Master Yoon is kind and fair and a role model for the children. My family and I recommend North Shore Martial Arts to everyone.

Master Yoon is one of a kind. He teaches his students responsibility and respect above all. He is the most genuine and sincere teacher our children will ever have. Martial arts is not the only thing kids learn here, there are high expectations of dedication, honesty and building a positive self. The kids learn that becoming a black belt is a lot more than learning the martial arts skills, but also growing as an individual.
