When worried about what's going on with your kids, and frustrated by their behavior or refusal to talk to you, some parents find themselves lashing out at inappropriate times. If that's you, it might already be clear that that doesn't help. But, maybe you've already tried everything you could think of, and you could be at the end of your rope.

I want to assure you that there are solutions to these problems, and I can help children and teens -- and worried parents -- heal old hurts, learn to trust, and communicate more clearly and respectfully. There is a lot of pressures on adults these days. Sometimes the stress of normal life can leave you feeling anxious, worried, or depressed.
Services
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois. I work with adults, teens and children who need relief from worry, sadness, adjustment issues, relationship problems and trauma. My clients are highly motivated and ready to make a commitment to themselves and the healing and growth process.
Kids don't come with instruction manuals -- but oh, how parents often wish they did! Just when you think you've got the parenting thing figured out, your child or teen enters a new phase, and you feel in the dark again. If your child is struggling with their school or social life, if they are getting bullied or engaging in risky behaviors, if they are argumentative / uncooperative / disrespectful, counseling can help.
I offer a multilevel approach to improve your communication and relationship with your child(ren). I have had the honor of witnessing many successes and I share what has worked for others, as well as take into consideration your own unique values and beliefs.

Whether it's helping family members understand and support someone with ADD / ADHD, or clarifying family rules and routines, change is more likely to occur naturally when the whole system is involved. After the initial assessment, goals and objectives will be developed along with a recommended number of sessions.
Trauma is an event or events that are so extreme or severe, so powerful, harmful and/or threatening that they demand extraordinary coping skills. Having suffered a trauma, you might begin to have some debilitating physical symptoms, in addition to emotional turmoil. The path to healing might seem like a mountain that you do not have enough strength to climb.
If you suffer from anxiety, you know it as a feeling of worry or fear that is with you much of the time. Although anxiety and panic attacks are similar in that they both involve anxious feelings, panic attacks are simply a more extreme and intense form of anxiety. Maybe it's a constant companion and never goes away.
