As the premier destination estate winery on Leelanau Peninsula, we'd like to welcome you to our historic farm and winery. Shady Lane Cellars is special in many ways, beginning with the rich history and ending with the award-winning wine. The dream began in 1987 when a doctor from Grand Rapids decided to purchase a 100-year old fruit farm sitting on a hilltop in Suttons Bay, just 8 miles from Traverse City.
Shady Lane Cellars is dedicated to offering you the best that Leelanau Peninsula can offer, which is why we're fully committed to producing the highest quality fruit with the lowest impact on our environment. As a Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) verified vineyard, Shady Lane Cellars endeavors to take great care of the land by practicing responsible farming techniques.
Our team is an integral part of everything we do here at Shady Lane Cellars. In fact, they're more like family. Some of them have been with us since the beginning; others are helping us build a new future for the vineyard through their passion and unique experience. In March of 2013, Richard Fortune became the proud new owner of Shady Lane Cellars.
If you're anything like we are, you love having your favorite wine available for a special dinner with your friends or a special meal with your loved ones. Now, you can enjoy the fruits of our labor all year long with the Shady Lane Cellars Wine Club. We have three specially designed Wine Club tiers that are perfect for every wine connoisseur.

I'm up here in the Traverse City area doing the wine tour thing. We stop here at Shady Lanes Cellars and this place is very nice! I'm a Reisiling guy and they have a really good selection. The late harvest Reisiling was superb indeed. We tried a few other wines and they all were really good. Highly recommended!!!

If you don't mind a blind tasting with absolutely no direction then come here. We enjoyed coming here in the past with detailed oriented tastings. We were very disappointed in the " new tasting" methods. Those large buses don't buy wine....we buy 2-3 cases in our favourite wineries. So very disappointed...we will no longer make this one of our stops

Avoid this like winery like the plague. My partner and I showed up today around 520 pm. There were only six people seated outside at the time with at least four folks serving. We waited for about 5 minutes for someone to come and seat us (Per the sign at the entrance). Finally, after being seated, they proceeded to ignore us while serving everyone else. In fact one of the servers was more interested in texting than coming to serve us.!!!! Discrimination? After 15 minutes we left. While I can’t judge intentions, it certainly felt they were making a statement. We left and went to Bergman‘s and

We have been here many times before and wanted to show our friends one of our favorite places. It has been a couple years since our last visit because we live across country and no longer have a cottage here. Admittedly we arrived a few minutes before closing but were given a tasting at the bar. We were guided through a tasting because I told the woman working our friends were new to the winery. The wine suggestions were nice because we were introduced to wines we were unfamiliar with and really enjoyed the wines we tried. They also gave suggestions on other wineries to visit during our stay and
