I've been a customer of this Sterling Optical since at least the early 90s, quite possibly even the mid-80s, when I first moved to New York to go to graduate school. This was when they were located on Broadway around 102nd Street, and predates Dr. Barksdale by quite a few years. When I heard they were moving I was very sad, but was greatly relieved to find out they would still be within walking distance. The team at Sterling Optical is excellent. They take their time to explain everything and make sure you have everything you need, and they go above and beyond to be helpful. In particular, I can't praise Suzette enough. She found a way to let me have 10 extra pairs of trial contact lenses when I got myself in a pickle by not ordering my new lenses quickly enough for them to arrive before I needed to leave on a long trip out of town. I recommend this Sterling location very highly!

This place is AMAZING. Suzette and Steve have a high standard for excellent quality and pay great attention to detail which is so important but hard to find when getting a pair of glasses. I buy all my glasses at this particular branch of Sterling Optical (UWS), and have been very happy with their products as well as the excellent customer service. I have terrible vision and they have managed to find/make me flattering and thin looks. They also walked me through what I needed to buy prescription safety goggles (which they don't carry, otherwise I would have bought them there!) Definitely recommend.

Sterling Optical is fantastic. They took so much time with me to get my prescriptions right -- never rushing me, always listening, tweaking, and working hard to make sure that the prescriptions were comfortable and correct.

I highly recommend Sterling Optical! They are friendly, kind, and highly competent. I ran out of contacts unexpectedly, and when I called to make an appointment, Suzette asked if I needed to come in for a set of sample contacts for the week before my appointment - so helpful! This kind and conscientious service set the tone for my experience. At my appointment, my prescription changed more than expected. Dr. Barksdale asked me to come in again to confirm that the baseline was correct. I was wearing my contacts and she was concerned that fatigue could be throwing things off. Short version: apauled by the service of the doctor, he was checking memes on his Facebook while I was asking questions about eye issues.
Long version:
I was explaining to the doctor that my eyes have been constantly itchy and I tried multiple lotions,cleaners and drops but nothing was working.
He rolled his eyes.
After examining them I asked what is the problem, he looked frustrated at the question grabbed his phone and started to look on Google for lotions, after he asked me if I tried certain ones which I did, i asked again whats wrong with my eyes because i dont know where to start.

Sterling Optical is the place to go. After a wrong prescription from an eye specialist my glasses did not allow me to see. Sterling had me see their Dr in the store and now the glasses are perfect. Thank you Felix for helping me through this and for switching the wrong lenses to the correct ones at no cost! I highly recommend this store. Customer service is wonderful and staff is extremely friendly.

My wife and I have been going to Sterling Optical for years and it is always an exceptional experience. Sandy is fantastic and we've come to value her opinion when buying glasses. I'm an idiot--so I blame myself. I've been going here for years and keep saying it will be the last time but today was the last straw. They upsell and are so ridiculously overpriced. Same frames can be purchased online at a fraction of the cost and now they will charge an additional $50 to put in lenses if the frame was purchased elsewhere. Today I came in for a recheck because my new lenses were so unbelievably strong, I asked them to check my vision as though I was a new customer--without referring to the last prescription. My teenage kids were next door at Game Stop and no telling what mischief or purchases they were up to, so I needed to be quick. So while I was getting the exam done, Sandy (so awesome) helped pick out several frames for me. After consultation with the boss (my wife who arrived later) they narrowed down the frames to a handful. I ended up picking up a pair that were comfortable and stylish

I know it's a long review. But I spent almost $700 on glasses at this establishment AFTER "health insurance"
I purchased a pair of Jimmy Choo frames with Crizal lenses and added the extra insurance to both back in February.
First problem: prescription was wrong, had to wait and make another appointment to see another doctor and order new lenses.
Second problem: lenses fell out of my glasses, had to go back and have them put back in
Third problem: went in to replace my lenses because they got scratched (not even a year later, and I only dropped them once)
Fourth: wrong lenses

They didn't know it was in Menlo Park Mall and had a really hard time getting to the middle of the mall, even though my sister in-law was with them.

Horrible eye checkup service. Was made to sit and wait for 1.5hrs for pre booked appointment for eye check up. The equipment to check eye is super old. Doctor had barely few choices of contacts to try out, took 99$ Payment to book contacts fitting for another day once the contact arrived. Has been 8 days now no call backs. I am on my current old monthly contact last pair and now thinking of going to another doctor for contacts. Will probably now end up with double money spent. :(

Having not had a great experience here back in 2014, I didn't think I'd ever be back (prescription came out uncomfortably strong and I was grossly overcharged). I originally planned on getting my eye exam at Target Optical in Linden (and getting my glasses at Warby Parker ;)), but not only were they booked for days, their eye doctor leaves at 4:30pm weekdays and 4pm Saturdays. When I picked up my contact prescription. The lady at the counter said she remembered me getting glasses. I casually mentioned my eyes never did adjusted to them. She mentioned your company has to correct it and would take care of it. I asked if I would have to pay she said no and asked that I bring my glasses. I signed up for the appointment.
