Established in 1821, it was the site of the famous "Battle of Mobile Bay". There are monthly events depicting different eras throughout the Fort and Dauphin Island's history. An educational exhibit reflective of Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, Mobile Bay, Barrier Island and the Gulf of Mexico sea life. Also has a small gift shop.

The unit #408 was great except that it was not cleaned before we arrived. We had paid a $50.00 cleaning fee but the floors had not been swept and the fans had dirt hanging off the blades. Also the unit use to have a recliner and a stuffed chair with an ottoman. This year there was only a recliner. There was no where comfortable for me to sit. There is a white leather couch in the living room but it is not comfortable at all to sit on. I had to sit in a beach folding chair to watch TV at night. This is our 4th year in that room coming down there. The coffee pot still had a dirty filter from the
