Thank you so much for your interest in Altoona 8th Street Child Care. My name is Janet Ira and I have worked in childcare for over 22 years. I have raised my children who are now adults and I truly understand how precious your children are to you and your family. Altoona 8th Street Child Care is a 4 Star QRS rated center and we are very proud to offer such a highly rated program for our families and the children we care for.
Just a couple of highlights that have helped us earn such a high quality and safety rating is that we have a secured entry way to the center and live video cameras in every room. This offers all the children we care for much needed safety and security and we hope gives you as a parent great peace of mind.

We use Creative Curriculum center wide. Creative Curriculum is a research based curriculum which at it's heart is based on the teachers doing observations of the children every week. The teachers then use the information they obtain from their observations of your child to asses where they are in multiple areas of development.
We are excited to offer KidReports which allows parents and our child care center to easily communicate. It is the replacement to the information daily sheet and much more. As soon as an event is saved, it is immediately synchronized on each parent and caregiver account. Everybody authorized has access to the information in real time.
Our staff is qualified to handle behavior issues with redirection and open communication. We will use positive reinforcement to correct negative behavior and time-outs will be used at a minimum for poor behavior. We will work closely with parents to find a viable solution if inappropriate behavior continues.

I wish I would’ve took the time to do my research on this facility before enrolling my children. Things seemed pleasant and to be going well, despite minor things. Children had only attended for barely two weeks. I was called in the middle of class to pick my children up as I was informed they were short staffed and my kids were having a bad day. I arrive and I’m being given all of my kids belongings as if this was their last day. Before leaving I had to go and ask the head person to confirm this and was told I was going to be given two weeks as she felt my children needed one on one care they

I love this child care center! My son started when he was 2 1/2 years old and my daughter has been there since she was 6 weeks old! They are professional and kind! Mrs. Janet and Mrs. Nicole have been a huge part of helping raise and take care of children throughout all of our years there! I feel like we are family when we walk through the door every morning! My son still enjoys stopping in to say hi to his favorite teachers!

I babysit a child that used to go to this daycare. The child has returned home multiple times with black eyes after going there. The staff say they have no clue what happens, which is unprofessional in itself because you are paid to watch the children, but turns out there are DHS reports of the these occurrences. The daycare tried to hide this from the parents to still get their money from the child's attendance. There are teachers that have records who teach there, I would never trust this place. There was also a teacher, who granted no longer teaches there, that took videos of putting infants

You are never off on scheduled time. when I left they paid me 7.25 an hour when my actual pay was 11$ an hour. No matter how hard you work there, there’s no incentive. no one gets punish for things they aren’t supposed to be doing. All the teachers talk badly about each other. I’ve found hair in my meatloaf and soup there. I could never schedule doctors appointment or leave early was always a big deal was told to make on days off.

When my 4 yr old started here around 4 months ago we quickly got through the adapting stage and I do believe the teachers from both honey bees and wiz kids more particularly Ms. Shelbie played a huge role in helping with this because she would approach my daughter each and every day at drop off time and immediately try to comfort, welcome and distract her and this was extremely helpful for me and just made things much easier on me through the adjustment period. The teachers have also shown interest in my child and her love for superheroes so this has helped tremendously as well. My daughter is

5 stars for this place! I love everything about it. The staff is always so nice. This is the one place my daughter doesn’t cry when I drop her off. The app they have is wonderful also. I can check in on my daughter and see what’s been going on through out the day. Ms.Sue and Ms.Lori are great with the babies. I wouldn’t want to take my child anywhere else.
