My philosophy in treating skin cancer is based on fundamental principles gleaned from the tens of thousands of skin cancers treated during my training and private practice. Many dermatologists downplay tumors that are small. They will use creams or other destructive techniques to "clear" tumors. Others encourage radiation therapy as a "no-scar" technique.
Once the decision is made to remove a spot or tumor (benign or malignant), we schedule a time to remove the lesion. We strive to create a comfortable environment, with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. We offer bottled water and coffee in our waiting room and relaxing music in the procedure room.
During a first visit in the clinic, we always recommend a full body skin check. A full body skin check involves examining the skin from head to toe for any suspicious lesions that could be cancerous. This first visit is an opportunity to discuss your skin and the potential risk of skin cancer going forward.
Mohs surgery is the superior method for removal and definitive cure of many types of skin cancer. In my practice, we have taken the techniques originally developed by Frederick Mohs and refined them into a process that makes the procedure more pleasurable for our patients. I call it miMohs. To start, we strive to create a comfortable environment, with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.
PDT is a procedure that uses a photosensitizing drug to apply light therapy selectively to target pre-skin cancers, acne and sun damage. PDT can help clear the skin of actinic keratoses (AKs), acne, rosacea. PDT can also help prevent skin cancer. The medicine will be applied and will be absorbed for 1-2 hours, depending on your condition.
