YESPhilly Accelerated High School is a place where opportunity youth come to finish high school coursework, discover talents and dreams, and begin college or careers. Our programs attract creative youth who are excited about an accelerated educational experience. YESPhilly is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency whose mission is to develop a broad base of opportunities for Philadelphia's opportunity youth.
YESPhilly Accelerated High School offers classes in all the core subjects required by the School District of Philadelphia. Our classes are small and youth work at their own pace. We blend the Summit Learning Platform with project-based activities based on core content knowledge. Our youth set their own goals, and create a personal development plan that helps them take responsibility for their progress.

With the support of local organizations, universities, and foundations, we have developed an educational model that prepares students for college and careers by tying together personal development, media arts and technology skills, and academic instruction to meet Pennsylvania standards for a high school diploma.

I have a background in special education and over 35 years of experience starting and managing organizations like YESPhilly that provide academic and career readiness programs for students returning to school. I build collaborations with community partners to create a broad base of opportunities for students to explore their interests and develop a plan for post-secondary success.
YESPhilly creates a nurturing, safe learning environment by helping students feel secure, rather than monitored; appreciated rather than feared. When you enter our school, there are no metal detectors, no bag searches. At YESPhilly, we want students to open their hearts and minds, so they can learn and grow - and we provide safe structures and intentional strategies for them to do so.
At YESPhilly, we focus on helping our students find happiness and flourishing, as well as social emotional learning which has been shown to improve outcomes later in life. There are a variety of ways that the counseling team (lead counselor, two counseling interns, PCOP counselors, ELECT counselor, drug and alcohol counselor, and our school psychologist) gets to know the students.
