Lake Keowee is a man made reservoir located in Pickens and Oconee Counties in northern South Carolina near Seneca and Clemson. It was built by Duke Energy in the early 1970's to serve power generation needs and public recreational purposes. Lake Russell or officially Richard B. Russell Lake, named after US Senator Richard Brevard Russell Jr., is a reservoir built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the late 1970s and early 80s. The lake is fed by the Savannah River, Beaverdam Creek on the Georgia side and Rocky River on the South Carolina side.
